General Hospital has released a casting call for an almost-30something Latina character with an interest in medicine. Fans are wondering if this is a new character or one that already exists in story.
General Hospital has released another casting call, and for the second time in a week, fans are engaged in a game of speculation. Might the ABC soap be planning to recast the role of Sabrina Santiago?
The role in question is described as "Hispanic. 27-33. Beautiful, passionate, dynamic. Originally from Mexico, she has come to Port Charles to pursue a career in medicine." No name was given to the role.
The character breakdown sounds to many like Sabrina Santiago, currently being played by Teresa Castillo. The actress is expecting her first child and will be taking maternity leave soon.

It should be noted, however, that the casting call states that the character hails from Mexico. In story, and documented in our Who's Who character profiles, Sabrina grew up in Puerto Rico.
The casting notice also advised, "Please only submit actresses that are open to the possibility of a contract role as well."
A source tells Soap Central that this mystery character is not Sabrina and is, instead, a totally new character. Could the new role be one of Sabrina's relatives -- or maybe a rival? Only time will tell.
UPDATE: A General Hospital rep has confirmed that the role being cast is not Sabrina.
