AMC/B&B vet William deVry joins General Hospital

Emmy nominee William deVry has been cast in a newly created role on General Hospital. The actor previously appeared on All My Children, The Bold and the Beautiful, and Port Charles.

Soap opera veteran William deVry is returning to daytime. The actor confirmed on his official Facebook page that he is joining the cast of ABC's General Hospital.

"Finally!!! I just got word I can tell you I just finished my first day of work on General Hospital," deVry wrote. "It is a contract role. Very rare these days indeed. And I come to town as the character of Derek Wells."

While deVry stopped short of giving any details of what Derek's future storyline might involve, he did tease that "Derek has an agenda, let me tell ya!"

News of deVry's casting was first reported by TVSource Magazine, which stated that "Derek is Connie's boss."

William deVry first appeared on daytime as Timothy Dolan on Port Charles in 2002. It wasn't until the following year when deVry joined All My Children as Michael Cambias that the actor drew critical praise. His portrayal of the twisted rapist -- a rape that occurred ten years ago today -- earned him a 2004 Outstanding Supporting Actor Daytime Emmy nomination. DeVry's tenure on AMC lasted just eight months, but he returned for cameo appearances in 2004 and 2006. Most recently, deVry appeared as The Bold and the Beautiful's Stephen "Storm" Logan, Jr. from October 2006 through August 2008.

Outside of daytime, deVry has recently appeared on the CW's Nikita and Beauty and the Beast, as well as the Netflix series Hemlock Grove.

DeVry first airs on July 30.
