General Hospital is finally ready to wake up Lulu, but it seems Emme Rylan won't be back in the role she played from 2013 to 2020.
General Hospital casting call sparks actress' reaction
According to TV Insider, GH recently put out a casting call for a character named Lauren. She was described as a woman between the ages of 34 and 40 who is "beautiful, dynamic, and fiery." The character also just overcame adversity in her life and finds herself with a new strength. The description fits Lulu, and soaps often use different names for audition scripts to keep secret the real character they are casting for.
After the casting call news broke, Rylan took to social media to confirm GH's intentions in her Instagram stories.
"Yes, it is true, GH has decided to recast Lulu," she wrote. "Although I am very disappointed with their choice, I am glad to finally have closure. (And thank goodness GH brought all of you fabulous people into my life! Love you guys!)"
While Lulu has been in a seemingly eternal slumber in a private clinic, life in Port Charles has gone on without her, but her family still visits regularly. GH recently treated fans to scenes of Lulu's mother, Laura, and Lulu's ex-husband, Dante, in her room. We could see a blonde in the bed, but we could not see her face.
Dante and Laura discussed how much Lulu has missed over the last few years, including her children growing up. The scene seemed like a signal to fans that the character might soon open her eyes, giving Laura more children on the canvas, as Jonathan Jackson's Lucky is set to return to town later this month.
Life goes on for Lulu's family
In 2020, Lulu seemed to have minor injuries after an explosion at the Floating Rib. However, just as she tried to tell Dante she still loved him, she passed out and has been in a coma ever since due to a brain injury.
Dante has since moved on with his life and is in a stable relationship with Sam as they raise their blended family together. Lulu also left two kids to grow up without her, as Rocco and Charlotte are now teenagers. How will Lulu react when she wakes and learns her teenage daughter is now on the run with the girl's father, Valentin Cassadine, after Charlotte was stalking Anna last year?
When Lulu finally emerges from her long coma, she will have a lot to catch up on—and maybe give Sam a run for her money as they each vie for Dante's affection.
