What we know about Alley Mills' General Hospital status at Heather

After months of General Hospital trying to redeem serial killer Heather Webber by claiming her crimes were due to cobalt poisoning thanks to a faulty artificial hip, Heather is finally a free woman — who left Port Charles. Seeing Heather say goodbye to little Ace left GH fans with questions about Alley Mills' status with the soap.

Is Heather Webber gone from General Hospital for good?

According to Soap Opera Digest, Mills indeed exited the GH scene on the October 28 episode, but it doesn't mean this exit is permanent.

In fact, Heather made it creepily clear that she had no intention of staying away from Port Charles forever. When Heather whispered in Ace's ear that she'd be back as ominous music played in the background, fans could see the wheels turning in Heather's often-crazed head. She has something planned but is not ready to execute said plan just yet.

Mills joined GH in 2022 as a recast for Heather, taking over for Robin Mattson, who played the iconic character on and off since 1980. Mattson was last seen as Heather in 2016 when her son Franco paid her a visit at D'Archam, the asylum for the criminally insane.

Mills won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Guest Performer in 2022. She also still recurs as Pam Douglas on The Bold and the Beautiful.

What could Heather be up to?

While Laura (Genie Francis) was the one who championed Heather and set the cobalt defense in motion, she seemed as disturbed and dismayed as Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) and Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) when Heather was released from Pentonville. Perhaps she has come to her senses and realized that Heather has been crazy for more than 40 years. Heather killed others before the Hook murders, so cobalt poisoning couldn't have been responsible for her earlier actions.

While Heather's cobalt levels are now low after receiving a new hip, and she's shown remorse, that doesn't necessarily mean she is truly a changed woman. Heather has fooled people before and could be fooling people again. Portia (Brook Kerr) and the Ashford clan were certainly not convinced, hence Curtis (Donnell Turner) paying Steven Webber (Scott Reeves) to usher his mother out of Port Charles before she can do more harm.

Heather's entire reason for living since Esme (Avery Kristen Pohl) was killed earlier this year was to one day be close to Esme's son, Ace. It seemed way too abrupt when Steven convinced his resistant mother to leave town over a BLT. One minute, she told him she wasn't going, and in the next scene, she was in the hospital hall saying her goodbyes.

Heather is also expecting a windfall when Ric (Rick Hearst) sues the medical device company that made her faulty hip. Does she plan to use that money to fly back to Port Charles, kidnap Ace, and disappear? We wouldn't put anything past Heather Webber.
