Drew Quartermaine's life is falling apart on General Hospital. His night on the playroom floor with Willow became public viewing at the Q Christmas party while Curtis and Michael conspired to steal Aurora out from under him. It's what a messy soap life is all about, and Cameron Mathison is loving every minute of it.
Drew's General Hospital downfall
On election night, Drew felt he was at the top of his game. So what if his ex-wife just died, and his little girl was without a mother? He had just been elected to Congress, and that was all that mattered. When he arrived home just to have Jason (Steve Burton) clock him across the face, Drew should have known it was only a matter of time before things fell apart.

Now, everyone who Drew thought was his ally has turned against him, and Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) is doing everything she can to avoid him. Still, Mathison believes Drew will rally, and Willow will come around. In fact, he has high hopes for "Drillow" and can see why Drew has been exhibiting such unusual behavior of late.
Mathison justifies Drew
Many GH fans feel Drew is now unrecognizable and nothing like the upstanding former Navy SEAL first played by the late Billy Miller from 2014 to 2019. However, Mathison can understand his character's transformation over the last year. After all, he made what he thought were noble choices only to have them blow up in his face.
"Drew kind of has a different perspective on life these days after almost dying in prison, and doing it for Carly, and Carly dumping him, and the Quartermaines trying to get rid of him," Mathison said in an interview with Soap Hub. "Yeah, he's been making some poor choices for sure, but it's nothing everybody in Port Charles hasn't done already...Sonny and Carly are mad at Drew for having a little affair? Are you out of your mind?"
While Carly (Laura Wright) didn't technically dump Drew, he did fear that she would once Jason returned, so Drew ended things before she could. He didn't want to take a backseat to his brother in Carly's heart, so he ripped the Band-Aid before that could happen.
A love story for Drew and Willow?
Currently, Drew and Willow's affair amounts to one tawdry sex scene on one fateful night. However, Mathison believes there is more to this forbidden pairing than meets the eye, even if the audience can't see it yet.
While Mathison would like to see Drew repair a friendship he just destroyed, he also wants to take Drew and Willow to new heights.
"I'd like Drew to mend his relationship with Curtis...then, are you ready for this? I'd like Drew and Willow to take it to the next level," Mathison announced. "They love each other...well...Drew loves Willow. I'm not 100% sure Willow's sold on Drew yet. I think it's like a super couple in the making. I know everyone's going to think I'm nuts, but just wait. You guys are going to love Drew and Willow eventually."
Mathison then likened Drew and Willow to another legendary GH pair that had quite an auspicious (and now controversial) beginning.
"Think about how did Luke and Laura start?" Mathison asked the interviewer. When he was reminded that Luke raped Laura, the actor acknowledged how "messy" Luke and Laura were when they first met. However, that didn't stop them from catapulting GH to the top of the ratings. As Mathison pointed out, Luke and Laura became "the ultimate supercouple, so you never know."
Will Drew and Willow become a popular pair in 2025? Time will tell...
