It seems like ages ago when General Hospital’s Ned Quartermaine slept with Monica Quartermaine, not knowing she was his aunt. But that’s all water under the bridge now, as the two managed to get past it. Ned has always respected Monica, especially since she married into the Quartermaine family and put up with their antics for decades. Now that her portrayer, Leslie Charleson, has passed away, Ned’s real-world alter ego, Wally Kurth, paid tribute to her on social media.
They were castmates for decades
Even before one reads Wally Kurth’s Instagram post, you can tell he steeled himself for what he was about to write: “Oh Lord…this is a tough one. Leslie Charleson was my castmate for 34 years. Leslie…was just cool. Never let anything bother her on the set…no drama. I don’t think I ever heard her raise her voice. But she was no push over her either.”

General Hospital’s Kurth continued, “Acting is a blood sport…but not for Leslie. Lester, as I sometimes called her, was a dear, sweet soul who for the last few years experienced physical challenges that would have made any person sour.” He continued to praise his fallen co-star, writing, “But I never heard her complain. She was tough but vulnerable. A beautiful soul. I loved hearing Leslie laugh. She had a hearty laugh. Days of Our Lives star Eric Martsolf (Brady Black) responded simply with a heart emoji, as did Briana Lane, who shared three of them. She’s stepped in for General Hospital’s Brook Lynn Quartermaine on more than one occasion. Robert Palmer Watkins, who played Ned’s younger brother Dillon Quartermaine from 2014 to 2017, chimed in with, “Well said, big bro!!”
A fan with the handle @amymariaelizabeth lovingly wrote, “Beautiful, heartfelt, personal tribute, Wally. We all feel this one. Dr. Monica Quartermaine...won't be the same without you. Leslie Charleson, thank you for all the memories, GH & Love Is A Many Splendored Thing...my first soap as a young girl. I wanted to be just like her and Donna Mills. RIP. 🕊️😔.”
