General Hospital's Rena Sofer is doing her part in helping those displaced by the devastating wildfires that blazed through the Los Angeles area in January — including precious pets.
Rena Sofer gets the word out

Sofer took to Instagram this past weekend to introduce her fans to an adorable older dog that she and her husband are temporarily fostering while she helps search for the pet's rightful owners. In a video post, Sofer offered details about a 16-year-old chihuahua named Ruby who was found wandering alone after the fires.

"Welcome Ruby!! Me and @sbookstaver were asked to take in this sweet old lady who was found roaming the streets walking in circles after the fires," Sofer wrote. "We don’t know whether it was the Eaton fires or the Palisades. Her feet had burnt plastic on them and she seems to have dementia and some hearing and sight issues. But she is very sweet and very old."
Sofer explained that the dog is likely nearing the end of her life, and she and her husband, Sanford Bookstaver, hoped Ruby's owners would see the post.
"Sandy and I wanted to get her seen in case someone is missing her and wants her to spend her last days with the family who must have loved her. If that is you please call +1 (818) 917-3634 and ask for Ed. Tell him about my post...This is a hospice case and we will do what’s best for her in a day to day basis. If you consider fostering think of the older ones. They just want love and warmth and safety."
Sofer posted another video of herself holding Ruby with the same basic message, leading fans to the Pibbles and Kibbles Animal Rescue.
Sofer's long history of pet rescues

Sofer has been active with animal rescues for the last several years and explained why it became her passion during a virtual fan event last year.
"I got divorced," Sofer said, according to Soap Opera Digest. "I didn’t want to date, and I didn’t want to find another man. I wanted to feel like I was doing something."
While Sofer and Bookstaver eventually reunited and remarried, Sofer found a new calling in life and continued her work with animal rescues.
"If I can take one dog out of the shelter and find it a home, then I can focus that I’ve done something. One thing," Sofer added.
It sounds like that one thing is helping a lot of animals, one pet at a time.
