In the face of the devastating wildfires in California that have claimed the homes of many people, including General Hospital’s Cameron Mathison (Drew Quartermaine), several folks have stepped forward to help the victims or offered words of encouragement. One of them is rock star and General Hospital alum Rick Springfield (Noah Drake). The actor took to social media and deftly put the horror of the wildfire into a humanistic perspective.

Anywhere one lives has its dangers

General Hospital alum Springfield wrote a lengthy passage on Instagram: “Fans have been asking how we are faring with these unbelievably brutal fires. It’s soul-jarring seeing the familiar streets so devastated. Houses, businesses, and landmarks reduced to smoking rubble.

We have friends who’ve lost houses and I can’t even fathom the utter destruction of Pacific Palisades. It looks like London in the aftermath of a World War Two bombing run.”

The actor-turned-singer continued, writing, “We have been spared again and this fire season that never seems to end is getting old. I love where we live but the stress of the past two fires, not to mention the one before them that burned all our fences, has made living in Malibu more of a challenge than we anticipated.”

With that being said, he put things in perspective by analyzing other parts of the country that, on their surface, may seem safer than California. “I’d move to Nashville but they have tornados. I’d move to Florida but they have hurricanes. (Side note: they also have Disneyworld which kind of balances the bad stuff),” he wrote, adding, “I’d move to Wyoming but they have that giant caldera under Yellowstone. I’d move to Texas but they have a pretty strict dress code. I’d move to Alaska but I’d rather not freeze to death at this point in my existence. I’d move to Nevada but obviously they have a gambling problem etc., etc.”

His point was further clarified with, “I’m just saying that we humans have an indomitable spirit and we will rise from the (literal) ashes of these tragedies. Sending healing and prayers for strength to everyone who has suffered. We have a family member whose child’s school burned down and every little kid in his class lost their house.”

He then derided the government of California for making mistakes and not preparing for an inevitable fire. His post also contained a shot of firefighters battling the blaze, and he finished with, “Thanks to my amazing fans for your concern, we are safe for now but so many unfortunate souls are not and anything we all can do to help them is a good idea. Love, healing and a bit of humor to throw a little light into the darkness and a big thank you to the heroic firefighters and first responders. Xoxo, Rick.”

Many of Springfield’s fans expressed their relief that the star was doing well, while others implored him to move to their state. @jeffstevens80s summed up the collective fan response with, “Rick so glad you and your family are safe🙏 simply can’t believe the footage of the last few days it’s truly heartbreaking. Prayers and healing for you and all of your friends and neighbors 🙏😎 Take care, buddy.”
