Rena Sofer teams up with General Hospital alum for new project

Not one, but two General Hospital stars are appearing together in a new mystery film.

Rena Sofer has been killing it lately as Lois, who’s dealing with a secret from her past that involves her daughter Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton). That secret may soon explode, affecting several lives. The actress is also going to be in a new mystery movie alongside former GH star Tuc Watkins who played the dastardly Dr. Pierce Dorman. While Lois’ secret was made to protect her family, Pierce was selling drugs, had an affair with Monica (the late Leslie Charleson), and got her daughter Emily (then Amber Tamblyn) hooked on his narcotics. To say these actors are used to the drama is an understatement, but their new project looks fun.

A classic whodunit

Watkins and Sofer play husband and wife Sean and Lauren Riley in the new thriller, Death on the Brandywine. According to the film’s IMDb page, the plot involves "an aging politician is found dead at his home." The description further reads: "The police declare it suicide, but amateur sleuth Professor Millie Park is not convinced. In her investigation, she lays bare a family consumed by sibling rivalry and unchecked ambition."

Park is played by Satomi Hoffman who’s been in several TV shows and films including Gotham and the horror thriller Knock at the Cabin. They’re joined by another GH veteran Walt Willey, who played Jackson Montgomery a character he brought over from defunct soap All My Children.

A new type of character for General Hospital's Sofer

According to Soap Opera Digest, Sofer described the film as a “Knives Out kind of murder mystery.” That movie was a 2019 whodunit starring Daniel Craig (Skyfall) and Chris Evans (Captain America: The First Avenger). Sofer further noted that her character is one she wasn’t used to playing, remarking, “I’ve never played a ditz before. It’s a nice change of pace!”

Watkins had also played David Vickers on the now-defunct ABC soap One Life to Live, which took place in the same shared universe as GH and AMC. He and Sofer were like ships in the night on GH because as she was nearing her GH exit he was antagonizing Monica. Watkins also crossed David over from AMC to OLTL, not only on the broadcast show but also on the online version in 2013.

Brandywine is produced, written, and directed by Nick Wilkinson. Lisa Black, who was the executive producer of 2018’s sci-fi adventure, Atomic Apocalypse, is also a producer. Details of the film’s release have yet to be revealed, but we’re looking forward to seeing these two soap stars together for the first time!
