Laura Wright welcomes Chris McKenna to General Hospital

General Hospital fans were completely shocked when it was announced that Charles Mesure was abruptly leaving the role of Jack Brennan and would be replaced by soap vet Chris McKenna. Laura Wright’s Carly was in the middle of a budding romance with Brennan, and sparks were flying. But with Mesure’s exit, the characters may have to start back at square one to see if they can replicate the undeniable chemistry between Carly and Brennan. Whether or not that happens, Wright took some time to welcome McKenna to the show.

She’s very welcoming

General Hospital’s Laura Wright shared an image of Carly and McKenna’s Brennan having a toast on X, formerly Twitter, and captioned it, “Big love to Charles!!! And a Big Welcome to Chris McKenna!!!! And a Big hug to all the fans - we love you so much and we are so grateful for you all!!!!! #GHBaby!!!”

Wright kindly gave some love to Charles Mesure, whose exit still has fans scratching their heads. But her words were taken a little too literally as @tonyrossimedia responded, “Does this mean Carly and Brennan will be having a #GHBaby? That would be an interesting development.” Wright immediately put the kibosh on that concept, replying, “Omg no!!!! Haaaa.”

Many of Wright’s followers loved the idea of a Carly/Brennan child, with @EmilyEmilyc30 remarking, “That would be cool, though! A twist to the story!” Some fans did feel that enough was enough with Carly having babies, with @ihvvraaa remarking, “Just STOP with the Carly having [a] baby.”

Several fans agreed with @salcorrente’s comment lamenting Mesure’s exit: “I have to say if anyone can recreate the magic it's #LauraWright, but this one hurt. Charles was fantastic with you.” @SamariaIoane was also sad about Mesure leaving General Hospital, writing, “Charles left…that sucks he was a great Jack Brennan.”

But fans were open to the idea of McKenna taking over and willing to give him a chance, as @JohnLewitzke remarked, “After watching today’s show I was very pleased with the performance #ChrisMcKenna had today Laura!!! He was a bit more intense, playful as he could be with Carly, and look forward to seeing him develop his own interpretation of the character. Well done both of you.”

@Peaceole1 also had the same sentiment with their comment, “I trust Chris McKenna’s as an actor. He was pretty decent as Joey Buchanan. The man has the flippin talent. I am looking forward to the fun!!” Joey was a character McKenna played on the defunct ABC soap, One Life to Live, which shared the same universe as General Hospital.

In one of Mesure’s final scenes, he and Carly kissed, causing @gotoSharon to hilariously note, “You literally kissed CM goodbye 😢 How could you let him go after that kiss?? 😍.”
