Although it seems General Hospital has forgotten all about Scotty Baldwin, the fans and his portrayer, Kin Shriner, haven’t. The actor is all over social media, sharing fun stories of the past and reminiscing about the good old days. In honor of the soap’s 62nd anniversary, Shriner posted a video in which he revealed some little-known facts from GH’s past.
He recalled all the cars
Shriner took to Instagram to share a video in which he stated, “Let me be the first to wish General Hospital a sixty-second anniversary.” He then continued with, “Well, here's a little piece of, history. Back in '78, when GH went to number one, and we all thought that we might have some futures there. So, we…of course, bought new cars.”
At the time, GH was failing in the ratings and powerhouse producer Gloria Monty was brought in and charged with saving the show. She did, and after the introduction of action/adventure and intrigue/espionage on the series, the show skyrocketed to becoming a huge hit. This major milestone was marked by the 1981 wedding of Luke and Laura (Anthony Geary and Genie Francis), which is still the most-watched soap opera episode ever.
Shriner continued, stating, “Jackie and I got Corvettes.” He was referring to the late Jacklyn Zeman who played Bobbie Spencer. He went on stating, “Genie got a little Fiat. Stuart Damon [Alan], got an El Dorado, and Peter Hansen [Lee] got a Jag; Leslie Charleson [Monica] had a Cougar convertible.”
He also stated that show stalwart, John Beradino -- who played the beloved Steve Hardy -- “Had this old vintage Mercedes that he would just drive back and forth. Vintage! I mean, really cool. Blue.” Shriner concluded his video history lesson with, “Anyway, I'd like to thank you all for being a Scotty fan and…more years for General Hospital. OK, 62 years. Pretty good. Thank you. Goodbye.”
Fans miss him

A fan going by the handle, @sherriemarie.28, responded, “Scotty IS General Hospital, and Luke,Laura, Monica,Tracy Robert, Anna, Bobbie and so many others built the foundation that GH sits on! GH would not have lasted this long without them. You are so missed Kin.” @jackievollrath, who remembered when the stars purchased their sweet rides, replied, “Kin you are amazing remembering all the cars everyone bought back then. GH is not the same without you and reading how everyone feels is so sad. ❤️.”
Nearly all of Shriner’s fans lamented the fact that he hasn’t been on the show lately and hoped that would change soon, with @take2radio writing, “Happy Anniversary to GH but you should be on the show! I miss you! @generalhospitalabc bring back Scotty asap!”
