Two weeks ago, General Hospital fans saw the last of Sam McCall when Dante Falconeri said goodbye to his fiance. Kelly Monaco stayed still in a hospital bed for two episodes as Dante, Alexis, and Jason bid her tearful and heartbreaking farewells.

After taping that very last scene with Dominic Zamprogna on Friday, September 27, Monaco received flowers from the GH crew and gave a heartfelt speech.

X (formerly Twitter) user @pjporten shared a video of that speech on the social media platform.
"I’ve been on this lot for 25 years, and you have all been my family — not only my second family, but my first family," Monaco said in a choked-up voice. "And I just thank each and every one of you for all these memories and this experience that I’ll take with me for the rest of my life. Mark Teschner, you started this whole journey for me, and it has been a wild ride, and it will not be the last that you see of me. Thank you very much for having me."
A Port Charles legend
Monaco began her ABC daytime career as Livvie Locke on the GH spinoff series Port Charles in 2000. After Port Charles' cancellation, Monaco was offered a role created just for her on GH. The actress barely had a break before bringing Samantha McCall to life for the first time in 2003.
Sam arrived on the scene as a con woman brought to town by Jasper "Jax" Jacks (Ingo Rademacher) and quickly fell for Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard). Sam and Sonny's affair resulted in a pregnancy. Sadly, Sam's daughter was stillborn after Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) had agreed to pose as the baby's father.
Sam remained an integral part of the PC scene until her recent tragic death. The character had grown into a mature and responsible mother who chose to donate part of her kidney to Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins). Sadly, Sam had a heart attack while recovering from her surgery.

The news that Monaco had been let go from GH broke in August, angering fans. Monaco has made it clear that it was not her choice to leave and promised to release a statement about her circumstances behind the scenes in recent years.
