How well do General Hospital stars know their characters? Jennifer Hudson puts them to the test

When six of General Hospital's most popular stars made an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show this week, they played a little game to show just how soapy their characters really are.

General Hospital offers classic soap

Hudson questioned Maurice Benard (Sonny), Laura Wright (Carly), Donnell Turner (Curtis), Cameron Mathison (Drew), Finola Hughes (Anna), and Tanisha Harper (Jordan) about soap tropes their characters have experienced and they weren't shy with answers.

When Hudson asked which of their character had an evil twin, Mathison raised his hand, much to the surprise of his co-stars.

"I mean, I think Jason's evil," Mathison quipped, referring to Drew's not-so-identical brother and current enemy.

Hughes also raised her hand as Anna had an evil twin named Alex, who may or may not be dead. Alex has even kidnapped her sister and tried to kill her, which makes her much more menacing than Jason. However, she was presumed dead in 2021.

A little amnesia goes a long way

Maurice Benard got in on the action when Hudson wondered which of their characters had experienced amnesia. Benard couldn't wait to briefly — and humorously — explain Sonny's story arc in Nixon Falls, which went on for nearly a year. It's where he met Nina and fell in love, but Sonny was also not quite himself.

"I was Cowboy Mike for a bit," Benard began. "I didn't know who I was, so I wore a cowboy hat, and I danced."

Wright, whose character Carly mourned Sonny while he was on the Pennsylvania side of the river serving up drinks in a wardrobe full of flannels, chimed in. "And he hung out with Nina," she pointed out.

"I was with Nina," Benard agreed with a smile. "It's a whole long story," he added as the audience laughed.

While Sonny had some memory issues, his co-stars had no trouble recalling which of their characters had a long-lost family member show up. Five out of six actors raised their hands with Harper being the only one who couldn't make that claim. Oddly enough, we haven't met any of Jordan's extended family after more than a decade of the character being on the canvas.

Mathison, Wright, and Hughes admitted their respective characters have been slapped or done the slapping. Wright explained that it's all in the reaction to get those kinds of scenes right.

"You've got to sell it, though," she said. "The person taking the hit has to sell it."

In the world of soaps, it's almost certain that one of these six actors will be selling it again at some point as fans wonder which character will slap or be slapped next.
