How General Hospital’s Parry Shen shows his superhero side

General Hospital star Parry Shen has been having a blast lately. Between attending horror conventions to celebrate his roles in the Hatchet franchise to voicing a character on the video game-based series Secret Level, Shen has been busy. He’s also been working hard playing Brad Cooper on GH, who has been worrying fans since he threatened to call the cops on Cyrus (Jeff Kober). Recently, Shen took some time to post some of his collectibles on social media, and the fans were suitably impressed.

He wields the shield

General Hospital’s Parry Shen excitedly shared a video and photo on Instagram, with the caption, “Having some fun with my new shield from @comicsandwiches & the #captainamericabravenewworld trailer! 😜.” A look at Comic Sandwiches’ website shows that they sell a few variations on Captain America’s shield including the original design and the one from the new film Shen referenced, Captain America: Brave New World.

Shen continued in his caption, explaining which version he bought, “I settled on the OG shield since Joe Johnston directed the first Captain America film and The Rocketeer (to go alongside my prized helmet).” He then elaborated on a smattering of Johnston’s other work, writing, “He also created the look of The Iron Giant (.. and Boba Fett, too!) Something about his design sensibilities that I just dig - bringing fictional vintage nostalgia to life!”

Shen’s video was set to composer Alan Silvestri’s song, The Avengers, the theme from the 2012 film of the same name. In it, at the top was the text, "I can do this all day," and we see the General Hospital star dramatically taking the shield off its wall mount and putting it on his left arm. Interspersed with that are scenes of the Red Hulk from the new film and one clip has the monster slamming Cap’s shield into the ground. Shen suddenly becomes nervous. He cautiously lowers the shield and whistles, pretending he wasn’t doing anything, probably so Red Hulk wouldn’t get him. Then, the video jumps to the trailer for the new film.

His mention of the classic film The Rocketeer prompted @poldark46202 to ask, “The Rocka-who?” The 1991 film was based on Dave Stevens’ The Rocketeer comic books and stars Billy Campbell (Helix), Jennifer Connelly (Top Gun: Maverick, 2022), and the legendary Alan Arkin (Freebie and the Bean, 1974). The character is a take on classic movie serial hero Commando Cody and centers around Campbell’s Cliff, who finds a helmet and jetpack and becomes a heroic sensation.

Shen’s picture accompanying his video showed part of his impressive room where Captain America’s shield hangs on the wall. It also includes a metal wall hanging of the Iron Giant, a statue of the Rocketeer, and a replica of his helmet. @rohanwills commented, “@parryshen quite the collection,” while @soaplover56 excitedly responded, “I love this! ❤️ Can’t wait to see this movie! #captainamericafanforever.”

Over on X, formerly Twitter, Shen shared the same thing, and @dotterp replied, “All I can say is: I’m so happy you’re back on General Hospital! I love how you’re still sweet Brad, but at the same time you’re the conniving bad boy we’re rooting for!”

You can watch new episodes of General Hospital on ABC and Hulu.
