General Hospital’s Asher Antonyzyn has been winning fans over for his portrayal of Danny Morgan, son of the late Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) and hitman extraordinaire Jason Morgan (Steve Burton). The young actor recently opened up about how he got the job.

Asher Antonyzyn was on The Daily Drama podcast, which is hosted by his co-stars Bradford Anderson (Damian Spinelli) and his on-screen Dad, Burton. Antonyzyn explained that his mother was heavily into theater and directed plays at his local school, where he helped out as a stagehand. His mother introduced him to a local modeling/acting agency in Chicago, where he eagerly took classes and found he really enjoyed acting.

Antonyzyn subsequently competed in various acting and modeling competitions. They took a leap of faith and flew to California when he was 12 years old. He did so well that he got an agent and a manager and went on several auditions. The General Hospital audition presented itself six months later.

We thought it was a long shot, so we did it. And then, 10 days later, we got a call saying they wanted to do an in-person audition.

He and his family didn’t know if he would get the part, but they flew out anyway for it.

We threw the Hail Mary and we went.
I was so nervous, I didn’t know what to expect. General Hospital was my first job.

Clearly, he got the part, and both Burton and Anderson were blown away by the fact that it was the young man’s first job ever — more so when he revealed he’d never even acted in a play. Although he started pursuing acting at 12, he stars on General Hospital now at age 15.

When asked if joining the cast was anything like he expected, he stated:

Not at all. It was super crazy, like, going there. And I was very lucky that my first scene was the Halloween scene. So that means that all the kids were there like Hudson (West, Jake Webber), and Lily (Fisher, Georgie Jones), and Scarlett (Fernandez, Charlotte Cassadine).

The other child stars helped him learn the ropes of what needed to be done during the 2023 Halloween scenes. He remarked that his second day wasn’t as long of a shoot, and he did scenes with Monaco, who taught him a lot.

And I’ve just picked up so much from you, Steve. Where to look and do all that. It’s crazy.
