It’s always nice when Aunt Stella (Vernee Watson) is doling out advice on General Hospital. She had previously been a busybody, meddling in her nephew Curtis’ (Donnell Turner) life. But, she has since learned not to do that and always has words of wisdom to share with her family and friends. While she had sacrificed any kind of a life to help her sister raise Curtis and his brother, there has been mention here and there of men she was interested in. Now, Watson has a splendid idea to help give Stella some juicy storylines.

She needs more drama

General Hospital’s Vernee Watson spoke with Soaps about Aunt Stella’s romantic past. Her character had departed Port Charles for a time and lived abroad. Watson explained, “Well, we had talked about this guy in Europe…me falling in love with somebody while I was in Europe. But I was working so much on Bob Hearts Abishola that we couldn’t develop it.” Bob Hearts Abishola ran for five seasons from 2019 to 2024, right in the middle of Stella’s European journey.

There was something of an attraction between Stella and her sister’s back-from-the-dead husband Marshall (Robert Gossett), but the story came to a screeching halt. She explained, “I just thought that morally, I would never do that as Stella.” Despite the fact that Irene died many years ago, Stella wouldn’t want to besmirch her sister’s memory by fooling around with Marshall.

The outlet asked what Watson thought Stella’s ideal romantic partner would look like, and she chuckled as she replied, “I don’t know. He better be cute, whoever it is. I think Stella would enjoy that.” But looks aren’t everything, and Watson felt that for Stella to pursue a relationship with someone, a healthy dose of conflict was needed to make the story interesting.

“If it’s somebody that Curtis has a problem with or doesn’t trust or something,” she remarked, adding, “I think that would be interesting. There have to be problems, like maybe I find out that he has a wife somewhere or some kids that I didn’t know about or something. If there wasn’t drama, there wouldn’t be a soap opera.”

Curtis currently has a beef with Drew (Cameron Mathison) on General Hospital, but a romance between Drew and Stella would be absolutely preposterous. Perhaps someone new needs to enter the canvas, like a policeman or a doctor, to sweep Stella off her feet. Whoever she gets paired up with, Watson makes every one of her General Hospital scenes very entertaining. (Check out Watson's Wendy's commercial.)
