General Hospital fans know that while Sonny (Maurice Benard) and his enforcer Jason (Steve Burton) are mobsters, they’re not bad guys. Sonny has kept a tight grip on his territory, which has served to protect his friends, family, and the good citizens of Port Charles. Jason went from Quartermaine scion to the most lethal hitman the city has ever known, and together, they’re a force to be reckoned with. Known for ridding the streets of true evildoers, many have been attempting to stop Jason from dispatching the murderous villain Cyrus (Jeff Kober) while simultaneously releasing their darkest thoughts about what really needs to be done.
The gray area of morality

On General Hospital, police commissioner Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) recently asked Jason to let her use the evidence she has against Cyrus and send him up the river instead of killing the menace himself. Jason didn’t give her an answer, but it’s clear that her words appealing to his better nature got to him. Jason’s son Danny (Asher Antonyzyn) accused Cyrus of killing his mother Sam (ex-Kelly Monaco), and as the baddie tried to talk him into a calm place, he put a hand on the boy’s shoulder. Jason walked into Charlie’s pub, and upon seeing this, he yelled at Cyrus to get his hand off and openly threatened that if he went near Danny again, they wouldn’t find his body.

Jason moves outside the law, and his one big mistake is openly threatening Cyrus with witnesses around. If Cyrus does die, Jason will be the first suspect on the list. For ages, Sonny and Jason have been despised by law enforcement and several characters in their orbit because of their dangerous careers. However, there’s a double standard on General Hospital as we saw the dark side of characters rise to the surface.
To prevent Jason from killing Cyrus, Anna arrested Jason. Alexis visited him in the police interrogation room, and we saw her Cassadine side come out when she admitted to him that she wanted the villain dead for killing her daughter, Sam. Jason argued that she was not a murderer, but let’s not forget that Alexis had a long list of kills under her belt. But, as much as she wanted Jason to eliminate the baddie, she told him Danny would spend the rest of his life feeling guilty and thinking it was his fault. It’s hard for Jason to do as she asked because he and Sam had once been incredibly devoted to each other, and of course, they had Danny together.
Meanwhile, Anna and Mac (John J. York) had an incredibly interesting conversation where they danced around the fact that Jason killing Cyrus wouldn’t be a bad thing. Mac even argued that many citizens would be safe if Jason sent Cyrus to live with the fish. We see here again how people are realizing that Jason, and by association, Sonny, serve a good purpose.
As we watch the darker side of the characters emerge, it makes us wonder if moral ambiguity is going to become the order of the day, superseding the rule of law on General Hospital.
