General Hospital’s Chad Duell left the show in a blaze of glory when his character Michael was caught in a firebomb. The bomb was meant for his father, Sonny (Maurice Benard), and poor Michael is now convalescing at a clinic in Germany that will hopefully get rid of his burn scars. As a result, Duell exited the show for the foreseeable future but hasn’t ruled out an eventual return. The actor has been enjoying his best life post-GH and recently shared exciting news with his followers.
It’s like acting olympics

General Hospital’s Chad Duell and Stoneypoint Entertainment shared a post on Instagram that included several pictures and a lengthy caption, which read: “THE PLAY'S THE THING! Today, the cast and production team (producer @dorothyamos) made it official. @duelly CHAD DUELL (@generalhospitalabc Emmy winner) and @zach.mendez (just wrapped @marriedalivethefilm) will star in the world premiere of "YUM YUM AT ANNAPOLIS", a new play @bybrucereisman.”
He then added an interesting description of what would transpire next, writing, “Rehearsals begin with table read next week, then the public, full-tech and costumed, invited audience concert reading in April in Los Angeles at the legendary @elportaltheatre in NoHo. It's the start of a journey to New York, where an Off-Off Broadway run is planned for late fall.”
The General Hospital actor continued by talking about the play’s director, Bruce Reisman, who’s also written for TV, including T.J. Hooker and The Young Riders, as well as films like the upcoming Married Alive that also stars Zach Mendez. “Reisman will also direct his "two-hander", inspired by the real life friendship in 1939 between American playwright and icon Eugene O'Neill (Mendez) and a young sailor, ("Eddie" played by Duell), hired as a handy man to rebuild the front porch where O'Neill wrote ‘Long Day's Journey Into Night’. These two stage-trained pros will share the stage, alone, for 90 minutes (no intermission).”
Duell finished with, “It will be ‘Acting Olympics’ for these guys. @kdharringtonmedia rounds out the team as its Company Manager. #theatre #photooftheday #offbroadway #play #drama #icon #stage #actors.”
The snaps were taken at the El Portal theater, with the first one showing Duell and Mendez while the second one showed the Playbill. Next were the two actors with Reisman and Television & Film Costume Designer-Stylist Dorothy Amos. Another picture was taken outside the theater with its classic marquee.
Duell’s General Hospital co-star Cameron Mathison (Drew) shared some applause emojis while @lisacfrey commented, “Congrats Chad - knew you were looking to stretch those acting muscles! Bravo! 👏 You’ll be amazing, but you are so needed back on GH too! You are missed - it's awful lately. We need Dark Michael back to take his revenge 😉.”
