General Hospital would be boring without its comic relief. Attorney Scotty Baldwin (Kin Shriner) has often provided that, and whenever he’s on the screen, you’re almost always guaranteed something hilarious would happen or he’d say something droll. His antics with Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring) are scenes that people continue to talk about years later, and he’s got great chemistry with nearly everyone on the show. But now it looks like the book has closed on the buffoonish yet lovable ambulance chaser.
It’s not the first time he’s posted that he’s gone
We know, we know, Shriner has said several times over the years that he was leaving the show. In May 2023, he tweeted:

I just found out Scotty @GeneralHospital was written out I thank u @GeneralHospital fans for decades of supporting me!!
A fan going by @valleymike07 mirrored the thoughts of many with the response:
No way!! I look forward to seeing Scotty whenever I can and wish it was much more! This is a terrible decision for the show!
That never came to pass, and Scotty continued his antics until August when, after telling Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) that it was Valentin Cassadine's (James Patrick Stuart) who had initially tampered with Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) bipolar medication, he went…poof! And was gone.
While some fans have speculated that he went into hiding and somehow contacted Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) to take over Ava Jerome’s (Maura West) case, most viewers have wondered where he’s been ever since.
Is this just another of Shriner's kooky antics?
Recently on X, @KimSliva wrote:
Are you returning to GH? We need you!
His response was a simple, “No.” After several similar back-and-forths with fans, Shriner put out a general tweet stating, "Thank u for the interest in Scotty but I have no control over anything that goes on at GH."
So is that it? Is he finally gone? As far as we can tell, executive producer Frank Valentini usually comes out and makes a statement to back that up. He has yet to do that on any of Shriner’s quotes, so these announcements that he’s gone or been booted are probably hyperbole. It seems that he likes to announce that he’s gone every so often that people won’t forget about him or Scotty, and it gets the fan base talking and speculating fervently.
Besides, that would be the stupidest story in the world if Scotty just ran away and hid, never to return. It’s more likely that he was abducted by some nefarious person or group, and we’ll see him return down the road imprisoned in some dungeon. Of course, Jason will have to rescue him.
Let’s not forget that Shriner had to take some time off over the summer because of foot surgery, and he probably needed more recovery time to lounge at the beach with his Vespa.
