General Hospital's Drew Quartermaine has managed to make himself Public Enemy No. 1 in a very short period of time. He began 2024 with his hero status on shaky ground but still intact. A year later, he is one of the most hated men in Port Charles.
Drew's General Hospital descent
Drew has spent the first part of 2025 showing everyone who he really is. He sees no issue with sleeping with his nephew's wife, using his congressional power to tank companies if there is no money in it for him, and blabbing people's business all over town — namely Sasha's (Sofia Mattsson).

All of this is due to a disturbing obsession with Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) that leaves his former friends and loved ones baffled while turning fans furious. Drew seems to have no self-awareness, no remorse, and no concept that his actions are completely wrong.
Cameron Mathison takes the bad with the good
During a recent appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show with other members of the GH cast, Hudson asked Cameron Mathison how he's been handling all the Drew hate of late. That led Mathison to relay a story of a recent encounter with a fan while he was grocery shopping.
"One time in particular, at a supermarket, somebody recognized me, was like, 'Very excited to meet you,' and then quickly shifted," Mathison explained. "[She] was like, ‘I hate what Drew Cain’s doing!’ and grabbed an apple and threw it at me from across the produce section."
That story garnered several gasps and laughs, but Mathison has been taking it all in stride. Despite being used to playing the good guy on soaps (he brought All My Children's Ryan Lavery to life from 1998 to 2011), Mathison has had to adjust to this change in his character and remains pragmatic about it.
"The key is that people feel strongly about your character," he said. "Whether they like you strongly or don’t like you, it’s a neutral area that you don’t want. So I’ll take it."
In a January interview with Women's World, Mathison also commented on the dramatic shift in Drew's personality.
"It was a dramatic change," he said. "What I noticed the most is how the rest of Port Charles talks about Drew. People hate him! With all the things the Quartermaines have done, with all Jason and Sonny have done, a little infidelity is making Drew the evilest person alive."
