General Hospital's Trina Robinson has been mourning Spencer Cassdine since he plunged into the River Seine with Esme Prince behind him last winter. Unfortunately for Tabyana Ali, that has meant less meaty story to play.

When Ali was introduced to the GH scene, replacing Sydney Mikayla, Trina was in the middle of a major storyline. Esme had just set her up to take the fall for the revenge porn Esme had made of Josslyn and Cameron having sex for the first time. Ali's first GH scenes were after Trina's arrest.
When Nicholas Alexander Chavez's Spencer visited Trina in the police station interrogation room, the chemistry between them was electric, and this new version of "Sprina" quickly caught on with fans. They went on to become a young supercouple sensation.

However, Chavez opted to leave GH and Spencer behind to film the Netflix series Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. He later confirmed that he wouldn't be returning to the soap for the foreseeable future. Chavez's exit made Spencer's presumed temporary death a little bit more permanent—for now.
Trina's back burner General Hospital status
With Spencer gone, Trina has been relegated to the soap opera back burner, something Maurice Benard asked Ali about on his podcast, State of Mind with Maurice Benard.
"What’s up with Trina, or whatever the frick’s going on?" Benard asked. "You’re just in limbo then?"
Ali was pragmatic about the situation in her reply.
"I’m kind of in the gray zone at the moment,” Ali explained. "I think I’m just kind of observing everybody else’s trials and tribulations. And I’m in a, I guess, process of coming out of my grieving. You know, your soul mate dies, you ain’t going to get over that tomorrow."
In September, Trina made the decision to go back to college and move on with her life, so Ali is just going with the flow.
"It’s your soul mate who dies, you aren’t gonna get over that tomorrow, right?" Ali surmised. "I think it’s just this whole time this has been a lot about Spencer and my grieving and just figuring out what I’m going to do for the future, and what are my next steps, and how am I going to be okay with that."
Perhaps Trina's next steps could be with a back-from-the-dead Spencer, as Chavez has said he'd understand if GH needs to recast the role. Perhaps Sprina will one day live on, after all.
