On General Hospital, stories can take unexpected turns, and no one was more surprised by the startling revelations about Sasha Corbin than her portrayer, Sofia Mattsson. Not only was it revealed that Holly Sutton (Emma Samms) is her deadbeat mother, but Sasha also learned that the legendary super-spy-turned-district attorney Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) was her father. Mattsson took some time to discuss all of the changes for Sasha and her reaction to them.

She better understands Sasha’s motivations

General Hospital’s Sofia Mattsson explained to Soap Opera Digest that because Sasha’s backstory hadn’t been disclosed, she came up with ideas of her own. But when her family roots were finally revealed, she was thrilled and excited to finally be able to fill in the gaps in Sasha’s life. She and Josh Kelly (Cody Bell) had no idea about the startling revelations until a little while before they actually had to shoot the scenes, so everything was pretty much a whirlwind surprise for them. When asked what her reaction to the scenes was, she stated:

Super-happy and excited! I’ve been saying since the moment I got on the show that I would love to have a family connection, and now six years later it finally happened! I’m very thrilled, and honored.

Mattsson explained that she was always perplexed about the storyline that introduced her to the show in 2018. Back then, Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) hired her to pretend to be Nina Reeves’ (Cynthia Watros) long-lost daughter. Considering Sasha has always been kind and good-hearted, Mattsson was curious why her character would do something like that. When it was revealed that con artist Holly was her mother who trained Sasha also to be a con-woman, Mattsson finally had a deeper understanding of her character.

To be part of the Scorpio family was a huge blessing and honor for Mattsson, who stated:

I’m so honored! I’ve always loved the Scorpios. I’m so excited to have more interactions with all of them. Sasha is lucky!

Mattsson also feels lucky to share scenes with soap opera legends like Samms and Rogers. Of Samms, she explained what it’s been like working with her:

It’s been incredible. She’s so sweet, funny and talented.
I love working with Emma.

She stated that working with Rogers has also been fun because:

He oozes warmth and kindness and is just a very sweet and funny person to be around. I think him having all those very fatherly qualities makes our scenes very real and heartfelt.

Mattsson further added that she’s looking forward to exploring their father/daughter relationship, which she thinks is “very sweet.” She’s so happy for her character and, now, is on top of the world for having such a meaty, front-burner story tied to amazing legacy characters.

Sasha has the best of both worlds with her parents. Having the Scorpio inner detective, the need to right wrongs, and the skills of a con artist, she’s now poised to have some amazing adventures moving forward. While it’s too bad that Sasha and Cody can never be a couple now that they’re first cousins, they can still get involved in risky undertakings and perilous exploits, keeping the Scorpio name going for a new generation.
