General Hospital’s Rena Sofer is okay with Lois not having a romance

General Hospital fans were overjoyed when Rena Sofer returned to the show to reprise her role as Lois Cerullo in 2023. She originally left the part in 1997 and had been on several TV shows after that, including a nearly 10-year run as Quinn Fuller on The Bold and the Beautiful. From 1995 to 1997, she was married to her GH co-star Wally Kurth, who played Lois’ husband, Ned. Now that she’s been back for a while, Sofer discussed what it was like working with her ex and dishes about Lois’ (lack of a) love life.

She’ll one day do a nursing home love story

On General Hospital, Ned and Lois have a daughter named Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton), and Lois has been living with them at the Quartermaine mansion. Currently, Lois has been worrying about a secret she’s been sitting on for over two decades: Brook Lynn got pregnant as a teen, and Lois helped her to give the baby up for adoption. Little does anyone else know that Gio (Giovanni Mazza) is that child, who is also living in the mansion. But Lois grew concerned as Brook Lynn had recently been thinking about that time in her life and whatever had happened to her baby.

Lois knows that Gio is her grandson and told attorney Martin Grey (Michael E. Knight) all about it, just in case the story comes out and there are legalities to deal with. But now more people are learning the secret, and Lois’s life is heading for disaster once the secret finally gets out. Hopefully, Ned will be by her side to help Brook Lynn deal with the fallout, even though he and Lois are not romantically involved at all.

Sofer spoke to Woman’s World about all the soapy drama, and was asked what it was like working with her real-life ex-husband. “It’s always strange to work with someone that you were married to,” she stated, adding, “but coming back and working with Wally has been great.” She further noted that they enjoy working together again.

The website noted that neither Sofer nor Kurth had any interest in having Lois and Ned revive their romance on General Hospital. Considering a good deal of a soap opera’s bread and butter is romance, she surprisingly remarked, “I don’t really miss doing love stories and love scenes.”

The actress explained that her last on-screen love scenes were on The Bold and the Beautiful when she played Quinn, and they were with Lawrence Saint-Victor’s Carter. She humorously remarked that those scenes, “Were as hot as it’s ever going to be for me, again…unless I do, like, the nursing home love story!”

She also posited a hilarious scene possibility in which George Clooney, in a bit of stunt casting, shows up at the Quartermaine mansion and “knocks on the Quartermaine door and says, ‘Hey, Lois, when are you coming home? You’ve been here too long.’ Then we’ll know that she hasn’t been sitting here pining over Ned this whole time, right?”
