To say that Rena Sofer’s return to General Hospital as Lois Cerullo was long overdue would be an understatement. She first appeared on the show in 1994 and left in 1997.
Nearly 30 years later, she reprised her role in 2023, and fans were over the moon as Lois reconnected with her daughter Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton). She’s been very active on social media and has shared personal details of her life. After losing her beloved dog Alfie earlier this year, she recently shared a touching post to honor him.

Rena Sofer shared several videos and pictures depicting a tattoo artist giving her new ink. She wrote, “THANK YOU to the amazing @julianneashby and @shamrocksocialclub for the amazing new tattoo of my boy Alfie. I’ve had such a hard time saying goodbye to my ❤️dog and I wanted to see his adorable face every day. Julianne did the most incredible single-needle work and spent as much time as I needed getting him just right!! And especially thank you @sbookstaver for being my all-around photographer and emotional support everything!”
The resulting tattoo is a masterful rendition of Alfie on Sofer’s forearm. The videos showed the artist applying the ink. One of the photos was a stunning black-and-white distance shot of the actress with her arm across the table as she awaits her new tat. There’s also one of her with tattoo artist Julianne Ashby, and Sofer is grinning from ear to ear.
@louisemurphy1965 eagerly replied, “Beautiful artwork Rena. Alfie has such a sweet face. Are you looking forward to your birthday? We share the same date!!!🎂🎁🎄.” Sofer replied to the fan with, “@louisemurphy1965 happy early birthday!!!”
Ashby also commented on the post: “It was so nice to meet you ❤️ and it was an honor to do this tattoo for you!” Sofer responded, “@julianneashby you were just amazing!!!”
Another fan, @winslet12024, praised the artist by writing, “@julianneashby You do amazing work so life Like Thanks for the amazing Tribute for Rena's Lost Friend Alfie he is forever with her. Your Awesome JulianBravo❤️💯🐕❤️💯😍.”
Many fans shared their condolences for the General Hospital star’s loss. Quite a few loved the artistry, and some even considered getting one of their own beloved pets.

And @bigbandmeplus3 wanted to compare Alfie to the drawing on Sofer’s arm: “Omg I love it. I know there is a pic of [Alfie] on your account somewhere I’ll have to go look. I’d love to see a side-by-side for the resemblance. ❤️❤️.”
