General Hospital star heads to streaming success

Nicholas Alexander Chavez, who left the role of General Hospital's Spencer Cassadine behind earlier this year, is ready to make his streaming series debut in September.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story finally has a premiere date on Netflix. On September 19, 2024, you can catch Chavez's portrayal of Lyle Menendez, who along with his brother Erik, was convicted of killing their parents in 1996. Both Lyle and Erik claimed that they endured years of sexual abuse at the hands of their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez.

Chavez took to X (formerly Twitter) on August 20 to share the trailer for the series, as well as his excitement.

"MONSTERS: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. September 19. Only on Netflix," he wrote. "I’m over the moon. Sept 19th here we come!!"

The eerie trailer shows a car entering the gates of the Menendez family's Beverley Hills estate on August 20, 1989, when the murders took place. We see Lyle and Eric enter the mansion and then the den where they shot their parents. The trailer ends with the sound of gunshots.

Chavez's career takes off

Chavez's star has been rising since he landed the role of Spencer Cassadine in 2021, his first on-screen job. Chavez took home the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Younger Performer in 2022 but opted to leave GH behind in early 2024 after landing his Netflix series.

Netflix is not the only place you can see Chavez in September. The young actor will also appear in Grotesquerie, another series from Ryan Murphy, who also produced Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. Grotesquerie is set to make its debut on FX on September 25, according to Variety.

Two streaming thrillers starring Chavez could feel like a gift to GH fans who have been missing Spencer since the character fell from a ship into the Seine in January. While Spencer's body was never found, the character is presumed dead. Chavez had quite a GH following as one-half of Sprina, the popular pairing of Spencer and Trina Robinson (played by both Sydney Mikayla and Tabyana Ali). Chavez confirmed in May that there were no plans for him to return to GH at that time.

When Chavez bid goodbye to GH with a tweet this past spring, he thanked his GH fans for their support.

"Beyond the people I’ve already mentioned, I want to take some time to thank and honor the GH fan base…especially the Sprina fans…who must be THE most loyal and kind fan base in the universe of entertainment," he wrote.
