On General Hospital, Matt Cohen played the beloved character Griffin Munro from 2016 to 2019 and appeared once again later that year. His image was briefly shown in a December 2022 episode when Ellie Trout (Emily Wilson) appeared and spoke to him on the phone, and we only saw his picture on her device. Cohen is a fan favorite because he also played a young John Winchester on the hit CW series, Supernatural, a show in which he also directed an episode. Now, he’s got a new project that he’s trying to get off the ground and has asked his fans to help out.
A unique concept
Cohen’s new project is an innovative idea that uses public domain characters, and it is aptly titled Public Domain. According to his Indiegogo page to raise funds for it:

Public Domain is an animated TV series spoofing intellectual property and iconic characters.
A video is also on the page in which Cohen describes his project in depth:
‘What is public domain?’ you might be asking yourselves.
Well, Webster's dictionary, the Internet one, defines it as the realm embracing property rights that belong to the community at large, are unprotected by copyright or patent, and are subject to appropriation by anyone.
He further explained:
OK, well, anything written before 1926 is Automatically public domain and free for people to use. Anything after that becomes public domain at a set date after publication, or the creator's death. That's why I'm here with you today.
My producing partners and I have come up with an amazing new TV series idea that imagines the world where all the famous characters we grew up with as children were all a bunch of fun-loving drunken degenerates, chasing another chance of being rich and famous.
He lists the characters that would be appearing including, “Santa Claus, Frankenstein, Quasimodo, The Little Mermaid, Chulu, Dorothy, Peter Pan, and so many more,” and feels that most of the people who would watch his show were familiar with them.
Cohen then described his character, Shep Salazar, who is, “A former child actor who runs the bar and must wrangle these psychopaths to keep the lights on.”
He also explained that actors from Supernatural would be voicing some of the characters and was surprised that the concept hadn’t been done before. Cohen then enticed the viewers with his plea:
That's why we need your help. Production is down. It's next to impossible to get anything done in Hollywood right now. We love this idea so much we want to show the executives what they are missing.
He cited several shows that started the way Public Domain is, including The Simpsons, South Park, and Bob’s Burgers, which made a name for themselves before being television hits.
He ended his plea with:
It's gonna be a wild ride.
Cohen posted his video and variations of it on Instagram and X, formerly Twitter, and the fans totally loved the concept. Like us, they can’t wait to see the project come to fruition.
