General Hospital's Emma Samms weighs in on the stunning Sasha reveal

General Hospital fans were absolutely stunned when Sasha opened the door to the Quartermaine mansion, found Holly standing there, and called her "Mother." That was a plot twist that came out of left field with absolutely no real soap opera buildup at all.

As Holly browsed through an issue of Crimson while waiting for Felicia at the Port Charles Grille, it seemed innocent enough when she stopped on a page with an ad for Deception. The ad featured Cody and Sasha from their modeling days earlier this year. When Felicia pointed out that the male model was Mac's long-lost son and the woman was his girlfriend, we saw the alarm on Holly's face.

One would think it would take a few more weeks in real time and days in Port Charles time for a mother-daughter reveal. Instead, it took 20 minutes. By the next episode, we even learned that Robert was Sasha's father.

According to Emma Samms, fans weren't the only ones shocked by this out-of-nowhere reveal.

Emma Samms's General Hospital return is full of surprises

Samms, who returned to GH for the third time in two years in August, was thrilled by the behind-the-scenes reaction to Holly and Sasha's first scenes.

"I knew it was a good story when we were rehearsing in the makeup room to start with and there was a squeal from the makeup department," Samms told Soap Opera Digest. "That was a good sign. And then another good sign was that when we did the rehearsal upstairs in front of the cameras, even the camera people — who are the most seasoned, and basically disinterested, understandably, after all these years — gasped. There was an audible gasp. And I said to myself, 'This is good! This is getting a reaction!' And that’s the best you can hope for."

While Sasha's backstory never indicated her mother was the famous con known as Holly Sutton, Samms and Sofia Mattsson were able to take the scenes and deliver a contentious mother-daughter dynamic, despite having never met before.

"We met the day we were doing those scenes, so it was all very sudden," Samms admitted. “It was an emotional scene for both of us, but particularly for her. She’s very professional, very focused and I was very impressed by her. She is absolutely delightful and an incredible actress. It’s been a complete joy to get to know her and to work with her. She is reminiscent of my daughter, which is interesting because she’s got the same height and she looks not dissimilar to my daughter."

Holly's revelation that Robert is Sasha's father puts a crimp in Cody and Sasha's burgeoning romance, as that would make Cody and Sasha kissing cousins—so is there another twist in store? Could Mac not be Cody's dad, after all? Or maybe Holly is lying about the identity of Sasha's father. Stay tuned to find out.
