Fans are rejoicing at the fact that Emma Samms is returning to General Hospital as Holly Sutton. She last appeared on the show in April 2023, in an action-packed story, and she thought that she could rekindle her old romance with Robert Scorpio. However, Holly has often dabbled in such things as cons and blackmail, and since Robert continues to work on the side of the law—a former spy and police commissioner, but now the district attorney—she realized that they could never truly work out as a couple.

Holly’s return is much needed

Holly had previously rescued her son, Ethan Lovett (James Ryan), when he was captured by nefarious people who were auctioning him off like an antique. He owed money to some inscrutable people, and although she got him out of that jam, she left Port Charles to help him take care of those and more debts once and for all.

Now that Samms is returning, it’s unknown if Ethan will also come back, but Variety reported that she’ll be working with Jonathan Jackson, who himself recently returned as Lucky Spencer. While attempting to rescue a doctor from evil militia men in Africa, Lucky infiltrated the organization and helped the doctor, Isaiah Gannon (Sawandi Wilson), escape, but Lukcy was captured by the villains. Because his comatose sister, Lulu Falconeri (formerly played by Emme Rylan, who exited the show in 2021), needs a liver transplant, their mother, Laura Collins (Genie Francis), is on a mission to find her son and bring him home.

It’s highly possible that Holly is part of the hunt for him, because although she’s been a con artist at times, she also has a connection with the Spencer family because she used to have a romance with the late Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary). She’s not afraid of getting into dangerous situations and can handle herself quite well. Laura, and her husband, Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom), are no match for these bad guys, and Holly’s assistance will be much needed.

There’s a new villain on the horizon

Samms also told Variety that she enjoys playing the multi-layered Holly Sutton on General Hospital, explaining,

It’s the perfect part in that regard. It’s so fun, and really interesting. It’s that depth, all those different colors that Holly has to her character.

Samms is also happy to work with Jackson, whom she regards as an extremely talented actor, and she considered being placed in his storyline a “gift” from executive producer Frank Valentini. Samms noted that she and Jackson both learned the finer points of acting from Geary, who is widely regarded as a titan in the soap world. She then teased that Holly would be facing a new, dangerous adversary, whom she described like this:

A brilliant, strong, powerful, interesting villain now…[there are] going to be some interesting twists with Holly coming back to town.

Currently, a man known only as Sidwell (Carlo Rota) is the leader of the gang that Lucky infiltrated. He now has Lucky playing a game of cards, and if Lucky wins he’ll get to live (but not be freed), and if Lucky loses, he will die. While Holly has teamed up with villains in the past, she’s not all bad and may be just what Lucky needs to get himself out of this jam. Will Holly be able to use her relationship with Sidwell to finagle a deal to get Lucky out of there and back to Port Charles?
