And just like that, General Hospital's Dex Heller is no more, leaving poor Josslyn Jacks to grieve another boyfriend. This is the second time Josslyn has lost a love during her young life, with the first being her high school sweetheart, Oscar Nero.
General Hospital sends Josslyn into mourning again
As Josslyn (Eden McCoy) told Jason (Steve Burton) on the footbridge, at least she knew that Oscar's (Garren Stitt) death was imminent, and she was able to tell him goodbye. The teen died from brain cancer, and Josslyn was there for him through his illness, along with Cameron (William Lipton) and Trina (then played by Sydney Mikayla). With Dex, he seemed fine after a stab wound and suddenly had a mysterious heart attack, something unusual for a young man in his 20s.

Eden McCoy echoes and understands Josslyn's feelings in an interview with Soap Opera Digest.
"I think that this was her first real, adult relationship, and it’s the loss of a great love and in such a shocking way," McCoy said. "The dichotomy between the death of Dex and the death of Oscar, for her, is that with Oscar, she knew what was coming. She could prepare. That was a long, drawn-out process. That didn’t make it less challenging for her, but it was a different experience versus Dex’s death, which was just a total, total shock."
Will Dex's death give Josslyn new life?
While McCoy was sad to see Evan Hofer leave the show, she was glad that her last scenes with him were not his death scenes due to GH taping things out of order.
"It definitely was nice to have his last day be a little less heavy. I think the last scenes we shot were a few moments with me and Evan alone, and then it was group stuff with me, Evan, Tabyana Ali [Trina], and Gio [Giovanni Mazza, Gio] when they go picking out Christmas trees and doing silly stuff together," McCoy explained. "So that was actually the last time we all filmed together, and that was just really sweet because we could kind of all be together and just laugh and play and kind of have one last hoorah."
While Josslyn is heartbroken, McCoy looks forward to her character's next chapter and hints at a big new story coming up for Josslyn.
"When I found out about his death, I also found out about everything that was coming [up for the character], which was nice," McCoy revealed. "It was kind of a silver lining because I could see where we’re going with this, and I think [what the show has planned for Josslyn] is going to be really tough and challenging, but also super-cool and important and a story I will love doing."
What could that new story be? Well, Josslyn and Dex did have a very detailed love scene the day before he was stabbed. And we all know what love scenes lead to on soaps...
