General Hospital fans felt like they had whiplash in February when Jack Brennan suddenly had a new face — and a brand-new American accent.

Carly and Jack had just shared their very first kiss when Charles Mesure abruptly exited the role, and Chris McKenna began bringing the rogue WSB agent to life. McKenna was thrown into the fire just as Jack and Carly's (Laura Wright) romance was finally getting off the ground, but he didn't come with the accent Australian-raised Mesure did. However, that didn't mean that Jack had to lose his accent. The American one is a choice.

"Fun fact- I do all kinds of accents (check out my audiobooks/podcast) including Aussie (State of Affairs ep 6)," McKenna recently shared on X (formerly Twitter). "When I was cast there was discussion about using an accent but ultimately TPTB decided to let me be me. Tho understandably jarring to the audience, it was the right choice. Forgive me, it’ll be worth it."

When a fan commented that the switch was jarring due to the timing of when McKenna came in, the actor replied, "Well yeah, cuz that’s when he quit. Not the easiest time to take over."

The fans said that they understood and looked forward to seeing more of McKenna in the role.

Trouble ahead for Jack and Carly?

In the nearly two months since McKenna has been playing Jack Brennan, the character has recruited Carly's college-age daughter, Josslyn (Eden McCoy), as a WSB agent without Carly's knowledge. Jack and Carly also made love for the very first time in his Metre Court hotel room. Just minutes later, Carly drank champagne meant for Jack that was poisoned with polonium.

Thankfully, Carly is now on the mend, but everyone she knows has been telling her that she has to stay away from Jack. However, Carly is hooked, and it looks like Jack is hooked, too.

With Jason (Steve Burton) now gunning for Jack and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) determined to see his old friend die, Carly could be in more danger than she ever imagined. Will Jack and Carly become a love-against-all-odds kind of couple, or will they end up splitting for Carly's own good?
