On General Hospital, Ava Jerome (Maura West) has had no trouble using devious methods to get what she wanted. That’s partially why Portia Robinson (Brook Kerr) was so against her daughter, Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali), working for the art gallery owner and former mobstress. But times have changed, and so has Portia, who realized she had to get her hands dirty if she wanted to ensure that former serial killer Heather Webber (Alley Mills) stays locked up in prison. Kerr recently discussed a new alliance that Portia and Ava have.
Portia fought dirty
Heather had targeted Trina and the people around her because she felt they had wronged her late daughter, Esme Prince (Avery Pohl). She was unaware that her replaced hip had caused cobalt poisoning known as metallosis, which turned her from your average run-of-the-mill psychotic into a homicidal maniac who killed and injured several people using a hook.
But since she had the faulty hip replaced with a modern one, she’s been back to normal (well, normal for Heather). But Portia’s not buying it, so with her status as co-chief of staff at General Hospital, she surrepticiously altered Heather’s blood test numbers to make it look like it wasn’t the cobalt’s fault she became a killer. Little did Portia realize that her every move in and out of the lab and lab computer was documented.

After talking with Heather’s lawyer Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst), who had a separate blood test done, which showed Heather’s cobalt numbers were far lower than the GH test, wily Ava figured out what Portia had done and confronted her about it. Realizing they had common ground—a love of Trina—Ava told Portia she’d help try to keep her name out of things.
In a conversation with Soap Opera Digest, Kerr explained that Portia didn’t realize she would get caught so easily. She felt Portia was thinking,
How would I even think that Ava would end up being a part of this? She doesn’t even work at the hospital!
Portia denied any wrongdoing at first, but Ava was persistent, and the two realized the truth could be very detrimental to Trina, who finally has a positive outlook on her future since the death of her boyfriend, Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Alexander Chavez). Kerr weighed in on the fact that Portia didn’t like Ava at first, remarking,
I always feel like when two women have a strong personality, a strong inner compass, either you respect each other, or you view them as a threat. I feel like with Ava, we’ve had a borderline foundational respect for each other because ever since Trina started working at Ava’s gallery, we’ve been coming into each other’s lives.
Kerr explained that Portia now feels she has an ally in Ava, and together, they can face her misdeeds and the repercussions head-on. She’s enjoying working with West on their scenes and also loves the fact that Portia has finally taken off the kid gloves and is willing to fight dirty to protect her daughter from the perceived threat of Heather.
