General Hospital fans got a taste of a grown-up Emma Scorpio Drake on the soap's annual Christmas Eve episode when Braedyn Bruner made her debut as Robin Scorpio and Patrick Drake's college-age daughter.
Emma Drake made quite a General Hospital entrance
For much of Bruner's first episode, the audience had no idea that the girl Gio (Giovanni Mazza) met in Rice Plaza was really legacy character Emma. Gio was standing in the plaza minding his business when a girl ran into him, called him Doug, and slipped him a wallet to hold.

After Gio discovered the wallet was stolen, the girl explained she took it from a man who had ripped off an old woman selling handmade ornaments. She convinced Gio not to turn her in to the police. Later, when she showed up at Maxie's (Kirsten Storms) place, we learned she was Emma and would have had no trouble with the cops, considering that her grandmother is a police commissioner.
This new Emma seemed much different from the little girl who would visit her grandparents, Anna (Finola Hughes) and Robert (Tristan Rogers), on school vacations. However, she is all grown up now and has become her own person.
Braedyn Bruner puts a new spin on Emma
Thanks to the magic of YouTube, Bruner was able to look back through Emma's history and figure out who she was during the audition process.
"I started with her birth scene and then as she’s grown up to understand her relationships with everyone in Port Charles," Bruner said in an interview with TV Insider. "Pulling from that has been really important for me."
The actress also offered her own assessment of Emma.
"Emma is confident. She’s bold, she’s unruly, you could call her rebellious," Bruner explained. "But I think underneath all that tough exterior, she’s really quite compassionate. As we’ve been filming, we’re kind of peeling back those layers and getting to see more and more of the vulnerable side of her. But externally, she’s a lot."
Bruner looks forward to becoming part of the PC young adult scene, which includes her former childhood enemy, Josslyn Jacks. There was once a time when little Spencer and Cameron both battled for Emma's affections, leaving little Josslyn out in the cold. Will Josslyn (Eden McCoy) and Emma find themselves at odds as college students? Stay tuned to find out.
