It seems like yesterday when General Hospital’s cast included John Stamos as Blackie Parrish and Demi Moore as Jackie Templeton. But the two have gone on to have amazing careers with Stamos becoming a widely known star from being in the family sitcom, Full House. Moore has also made a name for herself, becoming a silver screen powerhouse who has starred in some great films, including Ghost (1990), G.I. Jane (1997), The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (2022), and the incredibly popular 2024 movie, The Substance, among many others. That last film has garnered her great success recently, and Stamos got to share in some of those moments.

60 is the new 20

The American Association of Retired Persons, otherwise known as AARP, held an awards show on February 8, 2025, called AARP’s Movies for Grownups Awards. Among the stars there was General Hospital alum Demi Moore, who received the Best Actress Award for her performance in the horror hit The Substance. The film revolves around an actress who uses an anti-aging drug and the deadly consequences surrounding it. Moore was shocked by the accolades she’s been receiving across the board for the film and told the AARP site, “You know, if you had told me in my 20s that my 60s would be the best moments of my life, I wouldn't have believed it. You couldn't pay me to be 21 again.”

She also stated that the film “Forces us to look at the way society views beauty, aging, and self-worth. But the more important question really is not what society is doing to us, but what we're doing to ourselves.” She felt that the movie could change people’s attitudes about getting older. (Check out what Moore had to say about working on GH with Stamos.)

Stamos was on hand to present the award to Moore and shared a montage video on Instagram that began with the text, “40 years flies by...” and ended with, “Here’s to 40 more.” He captioned it, “I was beyond thrilled to present Best Actress at AARP’s Movies for Grownups to my friend, Demi Moore. Demi and I go back over 40 years, to when we played Blackie and Jackie on General Hospital. We had big hair, big dreams, and enough hairspray between us to single-handedly destroy the ozone layer.”

Stamos went on to praise her performance in the horror movie, writing that it “Doesn’t just push boundaries—it flips them the bird and walks away in slow motion! It takes on themes of aging, body trauma, and the relentless pressure to stay forever young, forcing us to confront the absurd idea that a woman’s worth has an expiration date.” He gave out a spoiler from the film and ended with, “If anything, Demi is proof that some things only get better with time—like fine wine, classic rock, and the number of abs she has. Proud of you my friend. XO JS.”

The fans were blown back in time by the mention of their General Hospital characters, and former co-star Kin Shriner (Scotty) responded, “Nice to see u guys.” And French jazz singer Caesar Gergess had no doubts about Moore’s acting ability, praising, “Next: BAFTA for Best Actress! Then: Oscar for Best Actress! I knew this would happen the day I saw The Substance! All these awards are long overdue dear @demimoore ♥️👏👏👏.” (Find out about the time when Stamos and Shriner took a trip down memory lane.)

You can watch AARP’s Movies for Grownups Awards ceremony on Great Performances on PBS on Sunday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. ET.
