General Hospital Generations: Scarlett Fernandez and Finn Carr recall the classic couple that started it all

There is no couple more synonymous with General Hospital — and soaps in general — than Luke and Laura, as played by Genie Francis and Anthony Geary. As the story goes, their pairing saved GH from cancellation more than 40 years ago. Their legacy also lives on in 2025 in two teenage characters.

Scarlett Fernandez, who has played Charlotte Cassadine on GH off and on since 2016, recently took to Instagram to share a photo of herself and Genie Francis on set after Charlotte reunited with her grandmother.

"Me: I play Charlotte Cassadine on General Hospital," she wrote "Them: ? Me (Luke and) Laura's grandaughter. Them: OMG!!"

Finn Carr, who plays Charlotte's brother, Rocco, chimed in with: "Yep! Same."

Charlotte and Rocco also recently reunited when Charlotte returned to Port Charles after months on the run with her father, Valentin. Rocco was the one person Charlotte was in contact with over text during the time she was gone.

A General Hospital legacy lives on

Both Charlotte and Rocco are the children of Lesley Lu 'Lulu' Spencer (Alexa Havins), Luke and Laura's daughter. Lulu had just spent four years in a coma and didn't even know her dad had died during her long slumber.

When Lulu woke, she reunited with Rocco almost immediately, but spent the last few months searching for her daughter. Charlotte was in Europe and South America with her criminal father trying to escape the authorities and the bad guys. Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) finally decided to send Charlotte home with Anna (Finola Hughes) and Jason (Steve Burton), but couldn't stay away from his daughter for long, something Lulu is going to have to deal with.

Rocco is Lulu's son with Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna). While he is thrilled to have his sister home, he just wants a little of his mother's attention too.

Luke and Laura have other grandchildren, as well. Elizabeth's (Rebecca Herbst) sons, Jake (Hudson West) and Cameron (Will Lipton), are their honorary grandkids, while her youngest boy, Aiden (Colin Cassidy), is their biological grandson. Their son, Lucky (Jonathan Jackson), is Aiden's dad and also just returned to town.

Luke might be gone, but the Luke and Laura legacy lives on in their children and their children's children, proving that soaps are a generational genre, indeed.
