Fans of both General Hospital and Days of Our Lives know Wally Kurth and his passion for music. As Ned Quartermaine on General Hospital, he’s performed many times on the show and some of his most fun acts were when he was known as Eddie Maine.
On Days of our Lives, Kurth plays lawyer Justin Kiriakis, and although he’s never sung on the show, he’s part of The Day Players — a band that includes DAYS stars Eric Martsolf (Brady Black), Carson Boatman (Johnny DiMera), and Brandon Barash (Stefan DiMera). He recently shared two posts on social media that indulged his musical proclivities.

On Instagram, General Hospital’s Wally Kurth shared two musically oriented posts. The first one contained a video of Kurth playing music, and was captioned:
Happy to post Love Needs A Heart. Enjoy. 🎶 #runningonempty #jacksonbrowne #jacksonbrownefans #bekind #11/06/24
In the video, Kurth was seated at a keyboard and explained:
This is a song written by Jackson Browne, Lowell George, and Valerie Carter. It’s called Love Needs a Heart, and it was on one of my favorite albums of Jackson Browne’s called Running on Empty.
Kurth chuckled after showing the songbook he was using, and said he loved playing the songs and then started to play one. After his lovely rendition of the tune, his fans were thrilled, and Instagram user @tinnyfinch responded:
Nice to hear you singing, Wally. Wish you had see him when he played at The Room a couple months ago. How’d your Bourbon Room gig go?
The fan was referencing a November 2 concert where The Day Players performed at The Bourbon Room Hollywood in Los Angeles. The venue’s website described the band’s performance as:
An unprecedented 90 minute acoustic act, encompassing rich harmonies, engaging storytelling, and a guaranteed unforgettable night out.
Speaking of The Day Players, Kurth’s next Instagram post was a dual post with the band’s official page, and he wrote:
Curious how we became a band?? Here’s the story…Hope you will join us! Find upcoming shows and tickets at thedayplayersband.com. @wallykurth @ericmartsolf @brandonjbarash @carsonboatman
Accompanying his words was a video interview with the band where Kurth stated:
Eric’s been hounding me for years to do a Days of Our Lives version of Port Chuck, [then pointing at Barash] which he was in.
I’d sort of been resisting it because it sounded to me like a lot of work, and I’m lazy like a lot of people.
Kurth further added that he had been performing in Nashville where Boatman was doing the same thing, as well as General Hospital’s Scott Reeves (Steven Webber). Reeves was in Port Chuck, a band comprised of GH stars that included Steve Burton (Jason Morgan), Barash, and Bradford Anderson (Damian Spinelli).
Kurth continued:
It sort of clicked like, you know what? Now’s the time. And I think we should do this.
After things made sense to him, he contacted Martsolf, Boatman, and Barash, explaining:
And pretty quickly we all decided, ‘Yeah. This is what we wanna do.’
@triciaann100 lovingly responded to the video with:
Amazing group and I hope the fan base grows even bigger !! ❤️
And so do we!
