General Hospital couple check-in: What's ahead for these three pairs?

Valentine's Day seemed to extend into this week on General Hospital when one new pair and one old pair shared consequential kisses — and another tried to figure out what comes next. The soap's head writers have some insight on what is next for all three.

General Hospital potential pair: Jason and Sasha

Right now, Jason (Steve Burton) and Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) have given no indication that they have any real feelings for one another as they embark on a fake romance so that everyone around them believes that Jason fathered Sasha's baby. Right now, their relationship just serves a logistical purpose. They don't want anyone to know that Michael is the father lest he lose custody of his other children with Willow (Katelyn MacMullen).

"Should it come out, the truth about the baby’s paternity could have big ramifications for Drew and Willow’s struggle against the Quartermaines — and Carly — for the futures of Wiley and Amelia," the head writers told Soap Opera Digest. "Jason will have Sasha’s back as she tries to keep all interested parties at bay. He raised Michael for the first year of his life, so being a surrogate father comes naturally to him. But coming together with Sasha in this way may result in unanticipated complications for them both."

Jason also posed as the father of Sam's (Kelly Monaco) baby when Sonny (Maurice Benard) was really the father and fell in love with her in the process. Could the same thing inadvertently happen here?

Port Charles old romance

Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) and Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) were high school sweethearts who have been married multiple times and share a child, but they could never seem to get things right. Now, they seem to have a second chance. For the first time in years, Liz is single, Lucky is in Port Charles, and there don't seem to be any obstacles in their way. But how long can that last?

"Neither has ever loved another like they’ve loved each other," Korte and Van Etten said. "Their feelings for each other are as vibrant now as they ever were. It’s just that fate always intervened...They ought to have smooth sailing…emphasis on 'ought.' Just as they’re getting back on track, Liz and Lucky may face another obstacle when another ex’s story threatens to collide with theirs."

With Liz's other two great loves, Ric (Rick Hearst) and Jason, both on the canvas, anything can happen...

A new General Hospital love story

Trina (Tabyana Ali) and Kai (Jens Austin Astrup) spent the fall as classmates and friends bonding over art, but now they are embarking on a true romance and just shared their very first kiss at a Port Charles art museum. After losing Spencer (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) a little over a year ago, Trina has been hesitant to start a new relationship, but she might finally find herself ready to move on.

"When [Kai] came into her life, she was still grieving Spencer, with little reason to think she was close to moving on," the writers said. "Kai changed all that. He’s handsome, charismatic, sensitive — and so far as she knows, has no baggage...except for a dream he can’t quite let go of. He’s casting about for a new direction when he learns of a cutting-edge medical procedure that could restore his ability to play football."

While that sounds like a dream come true for Kai, it comes with risks — and not just the medical kind. The writers tease trouble on the horizon for this new young couple: "This opportunity comes with strings attached, and those strings may drag Kai and Trina into a conflict that isn’t theirs; one that could destroy them just as they’re getting started."
