General Hospital comings and goings: Chad Duell exits as Michael Corinthos

Longtime General Hospital star Chad Duell is exiting the soap after 14 years playing Michael Corinthos.

Duell explains his General Hospital exit

Duell took to Instagram on Saturday afternoon to announce his exit, explaining it was his choice to depart the 61-year-old ABC soap.

"After many incredible years with General Hospital, I’ve decided to step away from the show," Duell wrote. "This wasn’t an easy decision for me, but it feels like the right time in my life. I’m beyond grateful to Frank Valentini, the cast, crew, and everyone behind the scenes who have been like family to me throughout this amazing journey.

To all the fans: thank you from the bottom of my heart for your unwavering support and for letting Michael Corinthos be a part of your lives. Your love and encouragement has meant the world to me. This isn’t a goodbye—it’s a see you later. Much love, Chad."

Some of Duell's GH co-stars wished him well in the comment section of the post.

Dominic Zamprogna, who plays Michael's brother Dante wrote: "Who wrote this for you…. Just kidding. I love you Cheddar."

Eden McCoy, who plays Michael's sister, Josslyn, and Katelyn MacMullen, who plays his wife, Willow, simply told the actor that they loved him.

Duell’s long GH history

Duell began his GH tenure in 2010 as the teenage son of Carly (Laura Wright) and Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard). Through the years, Duell has taken Michael through a long emotional journey dealing with Sonny as his adoptive father and AJ Quartermaine (Sean Kanan) as the biological father Sonny and Carly kept him from.

Duell was nominated for multiple Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Younger Actor, but took home the gold for Outstanding Supporting Actor in 2015 after Michael learned that Sonny had killed AJ in cold blood.

Currently, Duell is involved in a dramatic story in which Michael learned his wife cheated on him with his uncle. Michael also cheated on Willow with his ex, Sasha (Sofia Mattsson). Sasha now believes she may be pregnant with Michael’s child.
