Braedyn Bruner, who plays Emma Scorpio Drake on General Hospital, was one of many daytime stars who attended Daytime at Night: A Benefit for St Jude, which was put on by Lily Brooks O'Briant (Lucy, The Young and the Restless). Soap Central caught up with the actress at the fundraiser to chat with her about how she has immersed herself in the role of Robin's (Kimberly McCullough) and Patrick's (Jason Thompson) daughter.

Braedyn Bruner looks even more like her maternal grandmother, Anna, played by Finola Hughes in person. "I've been getting that a lot," the actress tells Soap Central. "It's really [nice]. It's such a compliment."
But Bruner isn't counting on a mere physical resemblance to her TV relatives to make her feel like one of the family. The actress has been doing her homework. When she helped Tracy keep her family's burial place intact, there were script references to Emma being grateful to the late Edward Quartermaine (John Ingle), who insisted that Emma be given the lone cure of the antidote during the Contagion storyline.
Bruner wasn't playing the role back then, but she took to the Internet to watch the scene in question so she'd be as informed as possible when referencing the moment. "I went back and watched videos," the actress says. "It's super important for me to do my research. I do it especially [when] there's history involved so, yeah, I went back and watched. I cried. I cried my eyes out."
Bruner is so dedicated to her craft that she started researching Emma while she was still auditioning for the General Hospital role. "I watched old Emma [scenes] and her relationship with her family. I had already seen that episode [with Edward and Emma] when it was referenced in the script, but I went back and watched it again."
Wedding interrupted

Another big Emma moment that Bruner watched was Robin's (Kimberly McCullough) return from the dead just as Patrick (Jason Thompson) was about to marry Sabrina (Teresa Castillo). Emma spied her mother in the back of the church, and poor Sabrina had to give up her plans to be Mrs. Patrick Drake.
"Emma goes, 'Mommy!'" Bruner recalls of the scene in which Emma went running into her mom's arms. "[GH] is a history-driven show. I wanted to get to know as much of it as I could."
In doing her homework, Bruner says she's gotten a stronger take on her character. "Emma's older now and she's gone through some things," the actress points out, "but the biggest thing I wanted to maintain is her heart and the way that she cares for people and her family. I think she gets a lot of that from Robin, and she had a lot of her dad's confidence and charisma, too."
