Chad Duell wraps his General Hospital run as Michael Corinthos

After announcing his General Hospital exit in November, Chad Duell is officially off the soap he has called home for the last 15 years.

Executive Producer Frank Valentini had promised that Michael would get quite the exit story and that's just what happened. As the year began, Michael was visiting Sonny (Maurice Benard) at his penthouse. When Jason (Steve Burton) and Sonny had a business conversation in the hall, Michael remained in the living room and poured himself a drink. He suddenly heard ticking before an explosive went off and sent a fire throughout the apartment.

Michael caught fire in the process, but Jason rescued him and got him to GH where the doctors found he'd sustained third-degree burns on 40 percent of his body. On the January 21 episode, Carly (Laura Wright) left with Michael for a burn clinic in Germany where he would receive experimental treatment.

Is this the end of Michael Corinthos?

Duell has said that he is leaving the soap for personal reasons but doesn't rule out a return down the line. He wants to spend more time with his family in Arizona after losing his father last year.

"There are a lot of changes also in my life," Duell said on State of Mind with Maurice Benard. "I just want to take some time to maybe go home for a bit and for [my son] Dawson to be around his niece and nephews and just some family. I feel like we’ve just been in this bubble and some time in Arizona might be good."

If Duell does decide to return to GH down the line, Michael will have plenty of stories to walk into. His marriage to Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) remained unresolved as Willow and Michael were not able to say a proper goodbye.

On top of that, Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) is pregnant with his child and is telling nobody who her baby daddy is. Michael knew he was about to become a father again and had asked to speak with Sasha, but had to be sedated again before Sasha could get there. Whenever Michael returns to Port Charles, he will have multiple children to deal with, as well as multiple baby mamas.

For now, Michael Corinthos is no longer a part of the GH canvas, but his legacy will live on while he is gone.
