Laura Wright knows why Carly isn't running from Jack on General Hospital

Many characters on General Hospital lead dangerous lives. Over the years, this fact has caused loved ones to rethink their situations. One that comes to mind is Sam (Kelly Monaco), who was deeply in love with Jason (Steve Burton), but his hazardous lifestyle put her children at risk, so she broke things off.

Carly (Laura Wright) has had her share of dangers from her various marriages to Sonny (Maurice Benard) and is currently starting a romance with WSB station chief Jack (Chris McKenna). Since she was recently poisoned with polonium when he was targeted with tainted champagne, his lifestyle is equally as dangerous as Sonny’s. Wright explained why Carly isn’t wary of the dangers posed by Jack’s lifestyle.

She finds him exciting

For Carly, living with danger is old hat. She accepted Sonny as the Don of the Northeastern Seaboard and always kept his confidence. Now that the two are divorced (yet again) and she’s starting a romance with Jack, he also brings some danger to the table.

Wright spoke to Soaps about Carly’s latest risky dalliance. Because Jack lives a gentleman spy lifestyle, he’s from a totally different world than Carly, which has mainly consisted of Port Charles and Florida.

"As far as being worldly and well-traveled, I don’t see that being Carly," Wright said. She noted the WSB agent’s appeal, adding, "I think the life that Jack has lived and that he continues to live is one that Carly doesn’t know, and she finds it very exciting.”

The actress jokingly pointed out, "You know, just having a glass of champagne with this man is deadly. So, what are you doing, Carly?"

The polonium poisoning has many fans wondering if Carly is leaving General Hospital. While Carly is sticking around for the long haul, several people have warned her not to get involved with Jack. However, Carly does whatever she wants and has chosen to walk with him on her path.

Wright remarked that, no matter how many people warn her about something or someone, Carly thinks, "I don’t want anyone telling me what to do, I’ll figure it out for myself." She also said that Carly had developed that “blind trust” because of all her years with Sonny and dealing with his "completely dangerous" lifestyle.

The actress also recalled the time that Sonny shot Carly in the head when she was giving birth to their second son, Morgan. Wright sees the irony in Carly choosing another dangerous person to get romantic with.

"[Carly's mentality is] 'I can make my own choices. You know, you’re telling me to stay away from Brennan, but if I got back together with Sonny, no one would care,'" Wright said. "It doesn’t make sense to her."
