Everything old was new again on General Hospital this past week—especially for Elizabeth Webber.
General Hospital revives Elizabeth's love life
For nearly three years, GH fans had to suffer through Elizabeth's lackluster romance with Hamilton Finn. From the start, we either screamed at the TV or yawned. Finn and Liz were an absolutely horrible match, but GH kept trying. After both fans and Liz complained that Finn never respected Elizabeth's boundaries, GH put the pair on a break, and we thought it was over. Sadly, it wasn't. Finn stopped mansplaining, so Liz took him back, and our eyes glazed over for another year until they finally broke up for good this summer.

A suddenly single Elizabeth now has her groove back—and her men back, at least the ones she has chemistry with. Just like that, Ric, Lucky, and Jason are back in Port Charles and in Elizabeth's life, and we couldn't be happier.
Liz firmly friend-zoned Ric last week, only to have an embarrassment of riches this week when she seemed to hold court for Lucky and Jason right by the GH nurses' station.
Seeing Elizabeth with Lucky on one side and Jason on the other made us giddy. Things didn't end well for former teenage sweethearts Lucky and Liz the last time they were together. In fact, their marriage was filled with strife, as Lucky was addicted to pills and treated his wife terribly. That doesn't mean people can't grow, change, and improve, so time will tell if Lucky can redeem himself in Elizabeth's eyes.
Jason is the one who got away. Despite multiple stops and starts, Elizabeth and Jason could never seem to make it work, but the affection they feel for one another is still palpable through the screen.
While it seems clear that GH is going for a Lucky and Liz reunion, we won't count anything out. While we would prefer to see "Liason" finally get their chance, we'll keep an open mind. After all, Elizabeth finally has her groove back, and GH is letting Rebecca Herbst shine as the leading lady she is meant to be.
The end of "Jasam"?
When Jason and Sam had their all-too-brief chat by the GH elevators, we got a sinking feeling this was the end. We know Sam is set to die this fall and that Kelly Monaco already taped her last scenes, but were these her final scenes with Jason? The way she forgave him and seemed to make peace with him made it sure feel that way.
The couple known as "Jasam" is legendary and one of the most popular pairings in GH history. If this week was all she wrote for them, then that's a shame, as Jason and Sam deserved a real ending and not just a few lines of dialogue in the hospital halls. It's bad enough we are going to lose Sam. What we don't want to see is a lackluster sendoff for such a longtime beloved character and actress.
New faces in old places
In addition to Lucky, two other pivotal characters were back on the scene this week, but they look a whole lot different. Aiden has been recast with Colin Cassidy, a soap newcomer who is slightly older than the previous Aiden, Tristan Rigg. Yes, Aiden is still in high school, but at some point, we expect GH to tell us he is a senior rather than a freshman, as he should be.
While some fans are a bit put off by an older Aiden, we are willing to give this talented new actor a chance. With Lucky back, Aiden and his relationship with his father are going to play prominently into the story as Lucky realizes his son grew into a man, and he missed it all.
We also appreciate Lucky admitting he is a coward and afraid to talk to his son, so he's been visiting everyone else while he works up to nerve to see Aiden.
Lucas is also back, this time played by As the World Turns alum Van Hansis. He already told Brad there is zero chance they will ever be together again, but never say never on a soap.
Heavenly "Hexis"
Making Alexis and Heather cellmates was a stroke of genius, as we pointed out two weeks ago. Not only have they been infinitely amusing in the few scenes they have shared, but there is something sweet about them.
Heather genuinely seems to want to help Alexis and have Alexis believe in her, while Alexis is starting to cave—against her better judgment. She actually finds herself liking Heather, no matter how much she tries to resist.
Marshall, we hardly knew ya
Is this it? Is Marshall officially off GH now? And if so, why? Robert Gossett is an Emmy-winning actor who brought home the gold for GH two years in a row, but now it seems he is gone.
The character was officially recurring for much of this year after Marshall finally confimed he was misdiagnosed with schizophrenia. There were so many beats left to his story that have been ignored. However, it was nice to know he was still around. Now, Marshall is off to tour the country with Wynton Marsalis, and we have no idea if we will ever see him again. But why? Make it make sense.
Final thoughts
If Sonny actually turns himself in to spring Alexis, it will be more surprising than Kristina plunging out a window and into the pool this past summer. Sonny never takes the fall for anything, so why would he start now?
Poor Brad is about to go through some things. Portia and Ava are going to throw Brad under the bus, aren't they? They're going to set him up to take the fall for doctoring Heather's blood work. Who can't see that coming from a mile away?
Thankfully we didn't have to see a shirtless Drew stalk Willow this week, but we did have to see Nina blush and go on and on about the glory of Drew to Curtis. Spare us, GH. Just spare us.
