Sam McCall's killer has finally been revealed on General Hospital. As Soap Central speculated weeks ago, Cyrus is the man who injected Digitalis into Sam's IV, causing a fatal heart attack, but why would he do it?
General Hospital turns Cyrus bad again
Laura (Genie Francis) couldn't stop laughing in 2022 when she visited her brother Cyrus (Jeff Kober) in Pentonville, where he told her he had found God. She didn't believe him then and doesn't believe him now. Since Cyrus' religious awakening, we have seen him do some questionable things, but until we saw him kill Sam (Kelly Monaco), we weren't sure if he was an outright killer again.

Laura was also surprised to learn that Cyrus had been visiting Lulu (Alexa Havins) regularly to pray by her side. She tried putting a stop to it, but he somehow managed to fool hospital staff at three different facilities. After all, he carried a Bible and preached repentance, so how bad could he be? It turns out Cyrus is pretty bad, but maybe not in his own delusional mind.
Did Cyrus' guilt get the best of him?
Since Cyrus is the one who had Julian Jerome (William deVry) plant the bomb at the Floating Rib that resulted in Lulu's coma, he might have been feeling guilty for the last four years. Cyrus had told Julian to make sure the Floating Rib wasn't crowded, but Julian screwed that up like he screwed up so much during his final year on GH. The fact that his niece ended up comatose didn't sit well with the criminal.
Was it Cyrus' guilty conscience that led him to spend so much time with Lulu, and is it also what led him to kill Sam?
What was Cyrus' motive?
As GH fans wonder why Cyrus would have a reason to kill poor Sam, Soap Central has two theories. He might have wanted to put Lulu and Laura out of their misery, leading him to also tinker with Lulu's ventilator this fall. Perhaps he was angry at the person who would give Lulu a new life just so she could waste away in a coma.
Then again, he might have hoped Lulu would finally wake after receiving a piece of Sam's liver. Perhaps Cyrus wanted to make sure Lulu could walk right back into her old life, which she couldn't do if Sam was around. After all, Sam was now engaged to Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), who was once married to Lulu and whom Lulu still loved before she entered her coma.
Could Cyrus have killed Sam so that Dante could be free to reunite with Lulu once she woke? When he tenderly placed his hand on a sleeping Sam's forehead after injecting the Digitalis, it was clear he held no animosity toward her. It also seemed like he felt he was doing the Lord's work—at least according to his own warped sense of religion.
Cyrus thinks he has covered his tracks but now knows he was seen on the hospital's 10th floor the night that Sam died. That puts Dex's (Evan Hofer) life in danger and could lead to another Digitalis "mixup" at GH.
