General Hospital coma chronicles: Lulu's return could upend all

It's been nearly four years since Lulu fell into a coma on General Hospital, but could the end of this legacy character's long slumber be in sight?

In the fall of 2020, Lulu's boyfriend, Dustin, had just proposed to Lulu, but before she could tell him she wanted to take a step back due to her feelings for Dante, a bomb exploded at the Floating Rib. Julian Jerome had planted the bomb at the behest of Cyrus Renault. Lulu was just about to tell ex-husband Dante that she still loved him when she suddenly passed out following what had seemed to be an inconsequential head injury. She had wanted Dante back, but fell into a coma before she could get the words out.

Since then, Lulu's loved ones have gone on with their lives without her, including her two now-teenage children. Recently, Dante and Laura spent an entire episode in Lulu's hospital room, reminiscing about the past and talking about all she had missed during the last four years. That caused some fans to think GH plans to wake her soon. If that happens, a myriad of stories can unfold as Lulu's potential re-emergence touches multiple characters and would have ripple effects throughout town.

Dante and Sam's romance

Dante was devastated to watch Lulu slip into a coma right before his eyes, and it took him a long time to put his life back together. Eventually, he fell for Sam, and the pair lives together now as a blended family. Dante and his and Lulu's son Rocco moved into Sam's penthouse and now happily live with her and her kids, Danny and Scout.

If Lulu wakes, Dante will have to think long and hard about whether he wants to resume his life with Lulu and end things with Sam. Rocco would also be affected, as he would have his mother back in his life.

A love interest for Jason

If Sam and Dante broke up, that would leave Sam free and give her time to think about where her life is. Will she still find herself attracted to Jason? Does she think she can live his dangerous life again? After all, the Floating Rib explosion that caused Lulu's coma was the same incident that made Sam decide she didn't want to expose Danny to danger anymore.

Jason was at the Floating Rib with Danny that night, and thinking her son might have been killed led to her breakup with Jason. (Ironically, Julian, who planted the bomb, was Sam's father.)

Valentin, Anna, and Charlotte

Just like Rocco, Charlotte has also been missing her mom, but Papa Valentin just whisked her out of town so he could escape the FBI. If Lulu wakes, Valentin could either find a way to return home or send Charlotte back to Port Charles so she doesn't have to live life on the run. Charlotte could also bond with her mother again. With Valentin and Charlotte or just Charlotte back in Port Charles, it is bound to affect Anna's life.

Laura and her kids

Last, but certainly not least, are Lulu's mother and siblings. Laura has been living life with none of her children around her, but that's about to change next month when Lucky returns to Port Charles. Will he be there to see his baby sister? Will Laura pull some mayoral strings and get her other son, Nikolas, released from prison so she can be surrounded by all her kids for the first time in more than a decade? Anything can happen if one pivotal legacy character just emerges from her long coma.
