General Hospital's Jonathan Jackson opens up about Lucky's reaction to Lulu's health emergency

General Hospital
Jonathan Jackson as an imprisoned Lucky.

In a desperate gambit to save Lulu Falconeri’s life on General Hospital, Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) and Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) flew to the ends of the earth to find Lulu's brother Lucky Spencer (Jonathan Jackson). But all three became captives of the evil Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota), and their lives hung in the balance. The villain set them up to play a card game where if Jason won, Holly (Emma Samms) and Lucky would die, but if Lucky won, Holly and Lucky would get to live. However, if Sidwell won, it’d be curtains for all of them.

There’s no time to play catch-up

Jackson took some time with Soap Opera Digest to discuss Lucky's reaction to finding out why Anna and Jason showed up to rescue him. Jason told Lucky that Lulu was on her deathbed and needed a liver transplant from her brother, who is no doubt a match. This was a shock to Lucky and caused him to put his whole life in a new perspective, and he’ll have to reorganize his priorities. Jackson explained how this news increased Lucky’s desire to abscond from the villain’s camp:

What’s going on with Lucky’s sister adds another layer to his desire to escape immediately.

This drive to return to Port Charles is new for Lucky. Although he loves his family, he’s been traipsing the world, saving people, while simultaneously running from his past. But now, he has a real reason to go back, stating,

You know, he’s been struggling, probably on a subconscious level, for a long time, but it’s starting to kind of rise to the surface, like when he had that dream of Elizabeth being in the jail with him. He’s struggling with that sense of shame and guilt around leaving his family.

With the urgency of the matter at hand, Jackson explained that Lucky no longer has time and must instantly spring into action if he, Anna, Jason, and Holly are going to escape. He further remarked that old friends Jason and Lucky didn’t have any time to catch up:

They’re in survival mode, just trying to figure out a way to get out of there.

Holly has her skills

Holly was Sidwell’s girlfriend for a time, but he figured out she was somehow connected with the other three, so he put her in handcuffs. Even though her greed for what the villain is mining far outweighed her desire to help Lucky escape, she’ll be a valuable asset as the team tries to escape. While Jason, Anna, and Lucky have the necessary fighting skills to dispatch Sidwell and his minions, Holly’s got con artist smarts and will probably be able to not only pick the handcuff locks but also the locks on the doors so they can all get back to Port Charles.

Jackson closed out the discussion by explaining that there’s little time for his character to process everything because the clock is ticking for Lulu. He’ll fight with all of his might to get home, and with the rest of the team by his side, we’re confident he’ll succeed and save Lulu’s life.
