Nobody on General Hospital was more shocked, dismayed, and all-out appalled than Mac Scorpio when Sasha pulled Jason in for a kiss during a fake public display of affection. Why was Mac's reaction so extreme that he practically needed smelling salts?

Mac's migraine brings back memories

The last thing poor Mac (John J. York) expected to see when he discussed the Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) case with Anna (Finola Hughes) was his brand-new niece kissing Port Charles' resident hitman in the PCPD interrogation room. He looked like he was about to pass out, and maybe he did because the next thing we knew, Mac was lying in Felicia's (Kristina Wagner) lap with a cool compress draped across his forehead.

Felicia was so worried about her husband that she wondered if they should go to the ER. After all, Mac hadn't had a migraine like that in years. Mac agreed. He hadn't felt this way since Jason was dating Robin (Kimberly McCullough), his other innocent niece whose heart wanted what it wanted.

Once upon a time, nearly 30 years ago, Mac was heartbroken to learn that the niece he was raising, Robin Scorpio, was HIV positive. Robin had just lost her first love to AIDS. When Stone (Michael Sutton) died and Robin received her diagnosis, she thought she had no future and met a young man whose past was erased in a car crash months earlier.

Mac was against Jason (Steve Burton) and Robin's friendship and eventual romance from the start. Jason had begun working for mobster Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), and he knew that would put Robin in danger. Mac was right, of course, and although a lot has changed over the ensuing decades, Jason is still a hitman working for Sonny Corinthos.

Robin may be a successful doctor on an HIV treatment protocol that lets her lead a normal and productive life, but Jason is still as much danger to the women he is with as he's always been. However, Holly Sutton's daughter, Sasha (Sofia Mattsson), is not at all an innocent teen.

Mac would be surprised when he learns just how resourceful Sasha is and that her new romance with Jason might not be as it seems. However, a good soap nod to history is sometimes all we need to make us smile. We don't get enough of that, and we also don't get enough of Mac. With John J. York back after battling cancer, protective Uncle Mac is ripe to make a comeback.
