General Hospital's Alexa Havins reveals the behind-the-scenes reunion that felt like "love"

Alexa Havins made her return to the soap world last fall when made her General Hospital debut as Lesley Lu "Lulu" Spencer. The legacy character had been in a coma for four years, but Havins stepped in and made the role her own — and experienced quite a blast from the past.

A General Hospital-All My Children reunion

When Havins was first offered the part last year, she immediately discussed it with her husband, Justin Bruening, who she met when she played Babe Carey and he was Jamie Martin on All My Children. She even teased him about joining the cast himself.

"I was trying to lure him in and I could see him kind of considering it and then he was like, 'But would I get to work with Michael Knight?'" Havins told TV Insider.

Knight, of course, famously played AMC's Tad Martin, Jamie's father. He now brings Martin Grey to life on GH. Bruening loved the idea of reuniting with her former on-screen dad, but it was his wife who finally got the opportunity.

" We had such a wonderful reunion in the hallway," she recently told Soap Opera Digest in an interview. "It was just love. Oh, he’s the best. You just don’t skip a beat with somebody like Michael. Right away it was, 'I love you!' and into a hug. He and Justin were so close on All My Children and there’s just a love there that doesn’t stop. There’s just a pause button and then you pick right back up."

Lulu's better uncle

When Lulu entered her coma, she had no idea that she had two uncles in Port Charles. Lulu was already in the midst of her long slumber when Laura (Genie Francis) learned that Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) and Martin Grey were her brothers. GH still hasn't dealt with the fact that Cyrus ordered Julian (William deVry) to plant the bomb that left Lulu in her coma, but we now know he caused her liver failure and fiddled with her ventilator, all in the name of freeing her from suffering.

While Cyrus is Lulu's criminal uncle, Marty is her lawyer uncle who gets himself in trouble a lot but ultimately has a kind heart. Lulu finally met Marty when she demanded that he tell her where Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) had Charlotte (Scarlett Fernandez). Marty didn't know have an answer for Lulu but he promised to tell her if he ever found out.

That sounds like a good start to a relationship that began in real life more than two decades ago in Pine Valley.
