General Hospital paternity puzzle: Who is Ethan Lovett's father?

The last time we saw General Hospital's Ethan Lovett, he had just been rescued by his con-woman mother, Holly (Emma Samms). After a few episodes, Ethan had taken off again. A few weeks later, Holly also left town to help Ethan settle some debts. Now, Ethan's name has come up again as we learn he has a sister, Sasha Gilmore Corbin (Sofia Mattsson).

Originally played by Nathan Parsons, Ethan Lovett first arrived on the Port Charles scene in 2009 to seek out Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary). Luke and Tracy (Jane Elliot) suspected that Ethan might be Luke's son with Holly Sutton, so they ran a DNA test. The test showed no relation between Ethan and Luke, but Luke later learned that Tracy fudged the DNA results.

When Holly later returned to Port Charles, she claimed that Robert (Tristan Rogers) was Ethan's father. However, when pressed, Holly revealed the truth. Holly and Luke indeed shared a son from a long-ago tryst.

Ethan settled into life in Port Charles, where he got to know his father and siblings while also becoming involved with a teenage Kristina Corinthos-Davis (Lexi Ainsworth). Ethan was Kristina's protector as she tried to break free of her abusive boyfriend, Kiefer Bauer (Christian Alexander). In the end, Ethan and Kristina realized they were better off as friends. Ethan later ended up marrying Maya Ward (Annie Ilonzeh) in a drunken Las Vegas ceremony.

In 2012, Ethan left Port Charles but got himself in trouble a few times, needing Luke to rescue him from Helena Cassadine (Constance Towers) in 2013, and Luke and Holly to rescue him from Frank Smith (Joe Cortese) in 2015. After 2015, Ethan wasn't heard from again until 2020, when he turned up in Monte Carlo after Holly was kidnapped and presumed dead.

Ethan suddenly has a sister

In 2023, Ethan once again found himself in danger in Venezuela, with Holly (and Felicia and Tracy) riding to his rescue. This time, Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy) was behind Ethan's troubles. Ethan also had a new face, with James Ryan taking over the role. Now, we know even more about Ethan's family background.

It was shocking enough in 2009 to learn that Holly was a mother, albeit not a very good one. At least she only had one child to do wrong by, but now it turns out that she had two. Sasha, a character we have known since 2018, is Holly's daughter with Robert—or so Holly says.

Since Ethan's paternity was first revealed, fans have wanted the story to be rewritten. Since Robert and Holly were a mega-popular pair at one time, and Luke and Holly were not, many fans would prefer that Robert was really Ethan's dad, after all. Since he was not a liver donor match for his alleged half-sister Lulu while her other siblings were, it's possible.

At the moment, Holly claims that Sasha is Robert's daughter, making her romance with Cody Bell (Josh Kelly) taboo, as Cody would be her cousin, but is Holly lying? Maybe we will soon learn that Robert is Ethan's dad, and Luke is Sasha's dad, clearing the way for Cody and Sasha to be together. It's a soap, so anything can happen, right?
