Fire Starter: Is General Hospital's Sidwell the new big bad who blew up Michael's life?

General Hospital has a new bad guy in town who has decided to stop lurking in the shadows. Jenz Sidwell looks like the next rival Sonny and Jason will have to look out for, and he could be the man who will change the lives of the Corinthos, Quartermaine, and Spencer clans forever.

While Ava (Maura West) learned there was a buyer for Wyndemere earlier in 2024, we are not sure that GH remembered that buyer when it decided that Sidwell (Carlo Rota) would be the latest villain to inhabit the Cassadine castle. We were excited to see who real estate agent Lucy (Lynn Herring) was ready to welcome to Wyndemere and were surprised to learn it was Sidwell.

The last time fans saw Sidwell was just a few weeks ago when he sat behind Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) in a church pew, listening to her ask God to protect the baby she was carrying. It seemed like he would lurk around PC for months, but buying Wyndemere tells us he wants to make his presence known. He even asked Lucy on a dinner date at the Metro Court.

In a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, GH seemed to tell us that Sidwell was the person who planted the bomb that tore through Sonny's (Maurice Benard) penthouse while Michael was inside. The fire from the explosion engulfed Michael and looked like it would send him to the burn unit for an extended period — if it didn't kill him first.

After Lucy left Wyndemere, Sidwell poured himself a glass of champagne and gleefully skipped to the window. He looked out over the city and raised his glass in a silent toast. Scenes with Josslyn (Eden McCoy) and Trina (Tabyana Ali), and then Drew (Cameron Mathison) and Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) followed. When we got back to Michael pouring himself a drink in Sonny's living room, both the audience and Michael could hear the bomb ticking. A split second later, the bomb exploded.

BlueSky user @canadianfuzzy edited out the scenes between Sidwell looking out the window and the bomb going off. They posted the finished product to the social media platform, illustrating how it truly seems Sidwell skipped to the window so he could see his handiwork in the Port Charles skyline Lucy had shown him earlier. A new criminal team?

If Sidwell really is behind the bomb, is he working alone, or does he have another big bad accomplice in the form of Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober)? It would seem odd that two different criminal masterminds are killing popular GH characters, so it makes sense that Sidwell and Cyrus somehow know each other.

We know that Cyrus has been roaming the hospital halls, injecting I.V.s with fatal doses of Digitalis to induce a heart attack. We also know Sonny's heart is now a "ticking time bomb," as Isaiah (Sawandi Wilson) put it. That makes us think that Cyrus has been targeting Sonny and slipping him meds. Would Cyrus and Sidwell both be after Sonny for separate reasons? Probably not. If they are working together, nobody in Port Charles will be safe in 2025.
