Eva LaRue opens up about working on General Hospital

General Hospital isn’t the first soap opera that Eva LaRue has been on. In 1988, she played Margot Collins on Santa Barbara, and from 2019 to 2020, she appeared on The Young and the Restless as Celeste Rosales. In between those shows, she won the hearts of soap fans by playing Dr. Maria Santos Grey on All My Children from 1993 to 2011—a character that has remained beloved to this day. She’s also been up and down the TV dial, appearing in such shows as Freddy’s Nightmares, Diagnosis Murder, and 153 episodes of CSI: Miami, among several other shows and films. As General Hospital’s Natalia Rogers-Ramirez, her portrayal as the overbearing mother to singer Alison “Blaze” Ramirez (Jacqueline Grace Lopez) has had fans divided, but she has entertained them nevertheless.

She loves working on General Hospital

LaRue spoke with Digital Journal in August and explained that being on General Hospital was wonderful, stating,

The best thing about this soap opera is that there are so many actors there from All My Children and they have all been so welcoming to me, and so lovely. It has really been a great experience.”

Natalia came across as extremely controlling of Blaze, claiming she only had her daughter’s best interests at heart. But she didn’t react well when she learned that Blaze was in a same-sex relationship with Kristina Corinthos-Davis (Kate Mansi). She later shared her innermost, yet disparaging, opinions about gay people with Ava Jerome (Maura West). Natalia didn’t realize that Ava was recording their conversation (although in all fairness, Ava had been recording something else and forgot to shut it off when Natalia showed up).

Being the heartless woman that she is, Ava leaked the recording to the news media, and it nearly destroyed Blaze’s singing career. However, everyone was eventually able to turn things around. Blaze received an opportunity to tour with Miguel Morez (Ricky Martin), and she left Port Charles. Although Natalia’s credibility was shot, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) decided to invest some money in Deception cosmetics with the stipulation that Natialia be appointed its CFO. This was a good reason to keep her on the canvas.

Acknowledging her character’s shortcomings and the division amongst the fans, LaRue stated,

While my character has not been the most beloved on the show, to put it mildly, I hope to be able to win some fans back in the future storylines.

Natalia needs more story on General Hospital

Natalia has only interacted with a handful of characters so far, but she’s got romantic potential with Sonny, as they have amazing chemistry together. Regarding the rest of the cast, LaRue explained that she would love to work with Cameron Mathison (Drew Quartermaine) because she’s been friends with him since he played Ryan Lavery on All My Children, explaining,

I love Cameron. He and I go all the way back [to] All My Children, and we’ve worked together so many times since then.

Considering Drew has been having casual sex with Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros), kissed Willow Corinthos (Katelyn MacMullen) twice, and keeps giving the goo goo eyes to Jordan Ashford (Tanisha Harper), it would make sense that he’d be eyeballing Natalia. It would be good for her character to have a romantic partner on General Hospital to spice things up, as she’s been sidelined recently.

Fans are hoping for more interesting things to happen to Natalia, and they are eager to see what’s in store for her next.
