In 2014, Billy Miller joined General Hospital as a plastic surgery patient named "Jake Doe," who had amnesia after a hit-and-run. Originally, the role was created as a recast of Jason Morgan (Steve Burton).
After it was revealed that “Jake Doe” was actually Jason, his relationship with Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) ended and he was reunited with Sam (Kelly Monaco). Jason and Sam got married and had a child, but the writers had a plot twist in mind: Jason was really his twin brother, Drew Cain.
Steve Burton returned to General Hospital to play Jason, and Billy Miller continued to play the role of Drew until 2019 when Drew was supposed killed. In 2021, Cameron Mathison was cast as Drew and has maintained the role ever since.

Who is General Hospital’s Drew Cain?
Andrew “Drew” Cain is the son of Dr. Alan Quartermaine and Susan Moore. Moore was his mistress and had given birth to twin boys, Drew and Jason. Drew’s backstory was retconned by writers in 2019 when fan favorite Steve Burton was returning to the show to play Jason Morgan. Billy Miller had been playing both roles of the twin brothers at the time.
The writers explained that Susan Moore, Alan’s mistress, was afraid she would lose her sons in a custody battle so she gave Andrew to her cousin Heather Webber, who also gave birth that night. Heather gave her newborn (Robert) and Andrew to a nurse named Betsy Clark to raise both boys.
“Andy” and “Bobby” were being raised as brothers, and didn’t know they were cousins. The boys were separated at the age of three when Betsy put Andrew in an orphanage to protect him.
Drew has had two children. His son was Oscar Nero, who had with Dr. Kim Nero when he was in the Navy, and his daughter, Scout, he had with Sam when they were married, although everyone thought Drew was Jason at the time.
Drew, who is running for Congress, might sink his own ship when it comes to his love life. Last month, viewers came alive on message boards when Drew and Willow (who is married to Michael Corinthos) kissed. Willow confided in her mom, not realizing that knowing that Drew is also sleeping with Nina.
General Hospital’s Cameron Mathison
Cameron Mathison, who plays Drew, is no stranger to soap operas. He was well-known as Ryan Lavery on All My Children before coming to Port Charles.
Mathison recently announced on his Instagram that he and his wife, Vanessa Mathison (ex-Mia, General Hospital), have separated. The couple have two children, Lucas and Leila.
E! reported that Mathison was out with esthetician Aubree Knight just three days after announcing his divorce. The two were seen walking and laughing together before sharing a meal, although US Weekly reports the two are “just friends.”
Mathison is also starring with Cameron Bure in Jingle Bells, Wedding Bells on the Great American Family network this November as part of their Great American Christmas 2024 line-up of holiday movies.
Cameron Mathison can be seen on General Hospital when it airs on weekdays, on ABC.
